There’s no denying that Prague is a town overcrowded with tourists. It can be difficult to get a square inch to yourself let alone trying to capture an image free of bermuda shorts and camera clad sightseers.
In Old Town Prague, I managed to frame out the masses by taking a low angle shot using the flowers to block out the crowds in front of me and shooting up towards this statue.
Jan Hus was a Catholic Priest who spoke out against the abuses of the church. He was found guilty of heresy, (basically disagreeing with the church) and was burned at the stake in 1415 after being condemned by the Vatican. The statue was erected in 1915 and is an imposing sight. His symbol of strength stands out and offers up a sense of calm and tranquility within the chaos of the square.
The best time to snap a photograph is early in the morning or whenever the astronomical clock strikes the hour as that is where everyone will be to watch the hourly show of the circling figures of the Apostles.
Prague may be a very busy city in the summertime, but it’s elegance and charm can never be diminished. The architecture and beauty of the city wins out to the overcrowding.
Check out more of our time in the city on our Segway tour of Prague.
I loved this shot, We recently got a Cannon 550D and are slowly starting to learn about photography.

I would love to walk through Old Town Prague!
The photos is truly, simply amazing.
Hi Abie, we have wanted to go to Prague for quite some time and it didn’t disappoint. The city is absolutely beautiful. I hope you make it there soon!
Awesome photo! I just learned about taking pics from the ground when I took a photo walking tour with Ken Kaminsky in Innsbruck. I need to work on taking better pictures. Walking through Prague would be a great place to learn
Ken is fantastic, I am sure that you learned a lot from him. We would have loved to have been in Inssbruck with ya’ll. And yes indeed, Prague is filled with great photo opportunities.
Great work getting a unique shot of a statue that gets a lot of interest from photographers.
Hi John, Thanks for the feedback. It is definitely a popular subject for photography and always difficult to make something well known interesting.
Stunning photo. Love the low angle, great work.
Thanks Pete, much appreciated.
Prague is such a beautiful city will have to try doing shots like these whilst I’m in Brasov.
Brasov is a very nice town, you’ll get some great shots for sure!
Clever way to hide people! I’ve been so annoyed lately with hordes of tourists ruining every shot I try to take… but I guess I should chill out more and try to find creative solutions.
European cities can be very frustrating in the summer, they are so over crowded sometimes. I must admit, Dave has great patience. He will stand and wait for the shot forever.
I can imagine how brutal it must have been back then, especially if you were to speak out against the church. Beautiful shot.
wow i never knew Prague was a nice place like this, excellent place to visit, excellent ancient buildings also
Yes, Prague is beautiful, if not a little busy in the middle of August:-)
This is a really nice HDR shot. I sometimes find this technique a bit overdone or over the top but you’ve really managed to make a beautiful shot here without over-editing.
I echo the tip about getting your photos when everyone else is doing something else (or just after–you can’t believe how deserted Old Faithful is 5 minutes after its eruption!) And of course, being on the dawn patrol helps, too!
Thanks for the post,
Nancy

Ah, that’s a great tip to know. It’s true, if you go the opposite direction of the crowds, you will find amazing photo opportunities!
