Meet The Planet D’s New Social Media Manager

A month and a half ago, Dave and I made the best decision we have made in a year for our travel blog. We added a new team member to ThePlanetD.com to help us with our social media. We have found the work load to be overwhelming as the website has grown. Between setting up sponsorship, going on media trips, writing articles for other companies as well as our own blog, traveling full time and working at growing our social media following, we barely had time to sleep, let alone enjoy our couple’s adventures around the world!

Meet Lisa Papadopoulos

The Planet D's newest team member

Something had to give and the answer came with Social Media. Lisa has taken over organizing our social media. We are still very active on Facebook, Twitter, StumbleUpon and Pinterest, but Lisa is keeping up the consistency that we can’t do ourselves. When we travel, our social media suffers. We can’t put up articles and photos while on the road and having someone to do that for us is a huge help.

We’re Still Here

Don ‘t worry though, we are still very active on all our channels. When someone answers you on Twitter or Facebook, it is Dave and Deb. So you never have to worry if you are actually talking to us or not. She is putting up the content, but we are interacting with you.

We thought long and hard about who to hire to help us run Social Media on our Travel Blog. It’s our baby and we don’t want to give up our personal voice. Lisa was an obvious choice. She knows us well, is our age and has our same sense of humour and enjoyment of life. Lisa is very inspirational and we have always valued her opinion.

Since joining the team, she has built our interaction and reach on facebook 10 fold. Because we travel so much, we have always struggled with Facebook. We could never keep up to posting questions or photos or even getting our posts up in our stream and it suffered. But finally we found the solution to our problems. Lisa!

    • I know Roy, it is hard to juggle everything. That’s why having a social media manager makes sense for us.

  8. That’s awesome! I’ve dreamt about hiring a social media helper. We did hire someone for our clothing line, but we did a better job than he did, so now I’m a little leery. Good to hear you found a good fit!

    • Hi Christy, it’s true. It is difficult to find someone that you can trust and who knows enough to take over. We’ve all worked hard at building our online influence and that trust between our readers so you can’t just give it to anyone. After 3 years of researching and building followers, it was a difficult decision for us, but Lisa is right in there knowing exactly what we need and want and had a great grasp on social media herself.

  12. Keeping up with social media is the most time consuming part! I think I spend more time doing that than anything else travel blogging related… however… how come you guys don’t share on SU anymore? When I am travelling I dont have time to go into my RSS… I can barely keep up with my SU shares. And since the majority of my traffic comes from SU shares I need to keep those people happy. But Im sad that I dont see much planetD content coming through anymore!

    • We’re fixing that problem. Wr’ve been so swamped these past couple of months we haven’t thought about sharing. But things are less hectic now so you will be seeing more of us. Cheers!

  13. Yeah, managing all the social media can be really hectic. A very good decision, best wishes to Lisa :)

    • Thanks, Lisa has been amazing. It has helped us keep consistent with getting our content out there, but we still haven’t lost our voice, because it is always us interacting with everyone.
