Good quality travel gear is important in our travels around the world. We put our clothes and packs through the ringer as they are tossed on the top of buses, dragged through the mud and smushed into planes. We have our entire lives in our packs and we don’t have a lot of space to bring extra clothing with us. We need to be able to wear it day in day out and have it hold up to being scrubbed in the sink, over stones and washed in public machines. Needless to say, cheap clothing is not an option. Instead we need lightweight, breathable clothes that will work in any climate.
We first heard of Arc’teryx when we took up rock climbing. All the best climbers at the gym were wearing them. We know how important it is to feel comfortable in your clothes while having flexibility and durability when pushing yourself to the limit, So when we noticed that all the “cool kids” were wearing Arc’teryx we followed suit. Mountain Equipment Co-Op supplies their stuff, and since we practically lived there during our climbing days, it was easy for us to shop and suit up with new Arc’teryx travel gear to look better on the crag than we actually were.
Their stuff rocks and better yet, Arc’teryx is Canadian. They actually have a North American manufacturing facility and employ highly skilled workers in Vancouver. That’s a rare thing in today’s world. Their gear is fashionable and stylish while maintaining a high quality and durability for outdoor performance.
We owe Ken Kaminesky a huge thanks for hooking us up with the company and we are so proud to be joining him in the Arc’teryx Ambassador program. We’ll be wearing Arc’teryx products and using their gear throughout our around the world travels and are currently putting them to the test as we trek around Maui and Lanai.

We’ve been disappointed with a lot of our backpacks in the past. We seem to change them regularly in our search for the perfect fit. But now that we received our new Altra backpacks, I think we’ve finally found our match! Dave ordered the Altra 65 and I got the Altra 62 and I cannot believe the weight of these babies. They are so light! We have definitely shed kilos off of our travel weight. And they are sleek and stylish so even while traveling in business class, (which we now do often since we are Elite Status on Star Alliance – Yay, we worked hard for that last year) we feel worthy while standing in line with all the suits.

I finally have a pack specifically designed for a woman and we both are feeling the difference from our previous packs. Each pack has rotating hip belts, adjustable straps, ultra padded and breathable shoulder straps and mine even comes with a formed occipital cavity for my head! There are plenty of pockets to stash loos items and there is zip and top access.
Arc’teryx has a lot of travel gear to choose from. We’ve been enjoying our new backpacks, but we are really digging our new clothes. Like our packs, our Arc’teryx clothes are extremely light weight. We’ve been the king and queen of over packing in the past, but now we’ve scaled down to a mere 13 - 15 kilos each. Anyone who knows us will be very surprised. Our Arc’teryx gear has not only inspired us to get rid of the heavy stuff, it has replaced the bulk.
We now have long sleeved and short sleeved shirts, ultra lightweight fleece mid layers and athletic pants that are not only lightweight but versatile. They can be used for rock climbing, hiking or just looking good when you go out or travel.

Arc’teryx sponsors some of the coolest athletes in alpine climbing, rock climbing, running, skiing and snowboarding and we feel privileged to introduce Arc’teryx to the travel world. Whenever we mention the name around the world, everyone seems to know them. They have a great reputation and people tell us that they love Arc’teryx. We agree. We’ve only just tested a few of their products so far but already know a great product when we see one. We’ve worn them to speaking engagements, out on the town and of course at the airport but we are really looking forward to putting them to the test when we do adventures.

Speaking at the Travel Symposium in Toronto
In Maui we’ll be hiking and paddling, meeting with tourism officials and sightseeing. We see our Arc’teryx clothing as the perfect wardrobe for all our up coming around the world travels and we are thrilled to finally have travel gear that not only suits our lifestyle, but we look good in it as well!
Arc’teryx was named for the ARCHAEOPTERYX LITHOGRAPHICA, the first reptile to develop the feather for flight. In other words, it’s the oldest known bird. How does this relate to Arc’teryx, Rock climbers, explorers and adventurers have freed themselves from the constraints of the horizontal world just as the bird who takes flight.

I actually had no clue they had a casual urban line…
I know eh. It’s great you can wear their stuff in the mountains or in the city. We’re loving it.
Love their gear!
Me too. I love how lightweight it is.
Do you have trouble feeling worthy in Business Class? What a funny thing to say. How many people in that line are doing exactly what they want?
I always laugh when I find myself in those circumstances with three day’s hiking filth or tattered jeans in a sea of suits and ties. If you belong there, you belong there. A briefcase won’t make a difference!
Ha, Jeff. It’s all tongue in cheek. We always feel like a slob when we travel and I meant it as, “we now finally look great when we travel.” Sorry if it offended you. I maybe should have chosen different words. I did mean it as a compliment to our wardrobe not to the suits. They do always look great in business class though and yes I do like looking good too:)
I love the flattering design of the Archteryx coats (& fleece sweaters) for women. The stuff is built to last and despite the high price it will probably last forever.
Hey Deb and Dave, great post, and thanks for making me aware of this brand. Given the excess baggage charges being harshly implemented with most airlines now, I am on the look-out for more lightweight casual clothes as well.
hope ya’ll are doing swell.
Glad you enjoyed Micheal and thanks for stopping by. Agreed, we’ve been looking for lighter luggage. If you like carrying a backpack, you’ll be impressed with Arc’teryx. It’s ultralight.
