That is how long we have until we take on our next great adventure. The Mongol Rally will be in full swing before we know it, and we haven’t even scratched the surface as to what needs to be done.
What happens when four very busy travel bloggers decide to get together to take on a treacherous drive 1/3 of the way around the world?
So far not too much. Sherry, Rick, Dave and I are all very excited and committed to making the Mongol Rally one amazing trip through 15 countries from London, England to UlaanBaatar, Mongolia, but we have a lot of work to do.
When I search through The Adventurists website and look at how organized the other teams are, I panic and realize that we have to pick up our socks and get some work done. Our to do list seems endless and we have barely scratched the surface.
For many others, this is their first trip of a lifetime. Many have been planning this for years and they are putting everything they have into the fundraising, researching and marketing. After they do the Mongol Rally, they will probably continue to have many trips of a lifetime because hey, once you’ve done one epic adventure they kind of become addictive.
For four fulltime travellers, “this is just another day at the office.” Sure it’s a great adventure! It is going to be awesome driving through the rugged terrain of Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. It is going to be exciting trying to navigate through 15,000 km of land to get to Mongolia. It is going to be epic once we get there.
But we all have other travels before and after the Mongol Rally. We are all planning for our other travels at the same time and this seems to constantly be put on the back burner. Rick is in full swing with Midlife Roadtrip, Sherry is about to take off to volunteer in the Middle East and we are in the midst of Muay Thai training in Thailand.
How will we ever organize ourselves to securing a car and finding all the gear we need when we won’t even see each other before the start of the Mongol Rally. Our team is on three different continents!
The same way we always get things done. One thing at a time. Even though we are four very busy travellers, we are four very determined and successful travel bloggers. We will make it work. We will split up the tasks and focus on one thing at a time.
It’s a new year and we are ready to put everything we got into the Mongol Rally and the adventurists aren’t going to know what hits them when the four of us decide that now is the time.
We’ve got our team name chosen The Social Media Syndicate. After several weeks of brainstorming, we held a contest and LisaLubin won by coming up with this very appropriate title for the four of us.
We have built a new website for our team The Social Media Syndicate. Check it out and start to follow along. Subscribe to our posts and see how our progress goes during the next 5 months.
We have started our fundraising for our Charity the Christina Noble Foundation. If you give even $10 today it will help a child in Mongolia receive and education and safe place to live and learn.
Click on the image below and give now to change a child’s life. $10 is all it takes and every little bit helps more than you know!
We have planned our route, we’re heading through 15 countries from the Czech Republic to Uzbekistan all in a yet to be determined 1.5 litre engine mini car. Although we are hoping for an ambulance or emergency vehicle to donate to the good people of Mongolia.
We have built our sponsorship package. If you or a company wants to help us out with anything from a car to satellite Internet we will give you lots of publicity. Check out what we can do for you here!
We’ve made a list of everything we will need in spare parts although I think we will be adding to that regularly.
And finally, we have all been chatting regularly on skype bonding and getting prepared to spend 6 weeks together in a teeny weeny car.
So head over to the Social Media Syndicate right now and see what the Mongol Rally is all about. Learn about Rick and Sherry and ourselves at our About Us Page and find out why we are all doing this crazy adventure. It is going to be one wild ride and we will be updating regularly at TheSocialMediaSyndicate on our progress and adventures.

Please, please, please don’t refer to your amazing 15 country rally trip as ‘another day at the office’!! There is a small trend lately, I’ve noticed, to normalize or minimize the awesome opportunities that travel bloggers get to take advantage of. I think it kind of takes the wind out of the sails of those that don’t have the same opportunities. Just sayin’
But really…199 days?! It’s going to go by so quickly isn’t it? I’m all signed up for updates from The Social Media Syndicate (great name, by the way!)..can’t wait to see how you all do! Cheers!

You’re right Gillian, The trip itself is going to be epic, but the planning stages are just another day at the office. For us, we are sitting on our computers so much that planning the route, preparing, raising money and doing the research is not so different from any of our other travels. While the other teams are spending their time planning for their one trip, we have several trips we are working on before and after. We’re not taking advantage of anything either, we do these trips because we choose to and we love to do them. It is our jobs and we work very hard for these opportunities. For mountain climbers to climb another peak is their regular occurrence we may think it is amazing, but it is what they do. The same can be said for any extraordinary career. Another day at the office for us is not the same as another for someone else.
This is great! I read about the Mongol Rally last year and thought it would be a pretty cool adventure. Can’t wait to follow along!
