Fab Foto Friday: The Roof of Mongolia

The Mongolian landscape makes for some surreal skies.

Mongolian landscapes are unlike any I have seen in the world. The scenery itself is breathtaking, yet there is always the element of the odd cloud formations that add that different dimension to each photograph.

When we were driving through Mongolia on our Mongol Rally adventure it almost always felt like you were experiencing a little of  Agoraphobia( fear of open spaces) as the landscape was just that vast. The sky always seemed to be so close to the earth and seemed to go on forever.

This photograph was taken just after our third river crossing. The perfect combination of water, earth and sky. The small river draws your eye to the imposing Altai Mountains and that dramatic canopy above.

  3. Amazing photo. It looks like you can touch the clouds, as though they are hanging, even looming over the land.

  19. Dave and Deb, beautiful, absolutely stunning picture. The landscape looks so barren, but the colours are delightful. I never knew about something called Agoraphobia, so thanks for that!

    • I felt a little bit of Agoraphobia when we were diving Mexico. The waters were so clear after diving in Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay that I was a little freaked out with all the open space around me. Luckily I didn’t have that feeling in Mongolia:-)
