As the sun lights up the ice cold water we are treated to the magnificent sight of a Humpback whale breaching in Antarctica. A rare and magical moment that I had the privilege to capture in photos. Nobody knows exactly why humpback whales or why whales breach in general. Scientists haven’t been able to get into the heads of these majestic creatures, but when it does happen, you are in for a treat. Enjoy this capture of a humpback whale breaching in Antarctica. We were in awe for 40 minutes watching it and captured this magnificent moment in time.

What an awesome shot…wow!
I love your photos. This one in particular. I’ve seen Humpbacks in Alaska, but have never witnessed one breaching. Catching it in a photo must have been a true joy.
Such timing, Dave. How fantastic. Well done!
Okay if I had just witnessed that I wouldn’t be able to speak for hours…majestic!
A most magnificent picture of these denizens of the sea. I got to go on many a whale watch from Provincetown, MA in the early 90s and the experience changed me. Thanks for evoking such wonderful memories of the Humpback whales!
Thanks Jeff. there is definitely magical about a whale encounter. They are so majestic.
