We’re heading to the Galapagos! We just barely had time to unpack and do the laundry upon our return from Antarctica and now we’re back on the plane heading to Ecuador with Intrepid Travel. We’re so excited and feel honoured and blessed to be able to fulfill two dream trips in one lifetime.
The Galapagos Islands are a place that we have wanted to go ever since our good friend Dewey went over a decade ago. We looked at his photographs in awe and wondered how we could ever get to this paradise on earth.
It took several years but we are finally making our way to the Galapagos and it’s with our favourite tour company, Intrepid Travel. The last time we travelled with Intrepid, we were in China and we had one of the best trips of our lives so we are completely confident that this is going to top that one! It’s our first of three trips with Intrepid this year and you have to stay tuned for our final tour because we’ll be leading a PlanetD original!
For now however, check out this sweet itinerary for the Active Galapagos Tour leaving on March 10th. There are still spots available, why don’t you join us?
Day 1 – Explore Quito. We’ll be leaving a few days early so we will have plenty of time to explore this picturesque city, but we’re going to wait until after our cruise to hike the Volcan Pichincha
Day 2 – We fly to the San Cristobal where we begin our Galapagos trip with a mountain bike ride around the island.
Day 3 – It’s then off to Isla de Lobos and Cerro Brujo Beach where we get to snorkel with sea lions. We’ll be traveling by boat as we observe the abundance of marine life in the area. Hopefully we’ll get to see the Galapagos shark!
Days 4-5 We are going to explore Isla Floreana and Isla Isabela where we’ll spot pink flamingos, sea turtles and the Sierra Negra volcano, the most active volcano in the region and the second largest crater in the world.
Day 6 – We’ll also be visiting the Wall of Tears built by convicts. It was supposed to be their jail, but it was never finished.
Day 7 - Today we get to witness the giant Galapagos Sea Turtle on Isla Santa Cruise and explore the lava tunnels of the islands.
Day 8 - We get to visit the Charles Darwin research centre and we’ll have the chance to snorkel again with Manta Rays today.
Day 9 - We head back to Quito to enjoy our final night together.
Day 10 - Our farewell to Quito, but never fear, we’re staying for another few days to explore.
We haven’t decided what we’ll be doing at the end of our cruise yet but if you have been to Quito, we are open to suggestions.

I do feel a little guilty I must admit. We are so lucky to be able to visit our two dream destinations in one year. Both places have been high on our list for years and all of a sudden we have the chance to see both at once. Life can certainly be amazing sometimes.
Amaaaaaaaaazing!!!!!! I wish I could join but I’ll be in Hong Kong.

One of these days we’ll meet up somewhere in the world. Have a great time in Hong Kong. Love that city.
Don’t forget to put letters into the post barrel on Floreana! I think Chris and I still have a few in there
