The landscaping is lush and lovely. The bed and pillows were comfortable. The A/C and hot water/water pressure worked well. Breakfast was a highlight (very good). Staff was friendly when approached, though service was not proactive.

Alanna and her Uncle were our hosts. They were super attentive to our needs, even if we didn't ask for something, they would offer it. We were given fresh coconut and coconut water most mornings, when sitting in the patio kitchen area, she brought a fan to keep us cool. She set up a hammock on our patio area for my husband. The location was in town, but not where it was loud. The closest beach, Playa Negra was beautiful and hardly used, it felt like it was personally ours. A vast selection of excellent restaurants, shops and groceries are within walking distance. We never needed a car or taxi. Bicycles are easily rented if you want to venture outside of the town. We even found a cute, friendly little Baptist church for Sunday's worship.

It was the quiet, and beautiful beaches we were looking for. We were there in July so it was the off-season so the beaches were very vacant which I liked super clean hardly any garbage like almost 0 garbage and the towns there are just so perfect like it came right out of a book. And the birds mustn’t forget the birds everywhere such a beautiful song to wake up to.

Very busy small town with lots of restaurants, bars, shopping. Public bus goes up and down the main road between Cahuita National Park and Refugio Nacional Gandoca-Manzanillo, where there are sprawling preserves with beaches & wetlands, protecting a vast coral reef & mangrove oyster beds.

The town was nice and classic costa rica but neat small/beachy shops and restaurants. (Close to Cocles. Don't skip that area or Manzanillo beaches!! Very pretty around there, even the drive). My favorite along the roads (above others for 6 hours)! The Indian place near cocles? was pricey but good. Liked Hotel Banana Azul and Hotel Indalo too. Intimate, smaller, cheaper, classy hotel. Beaches were nice! The beach at Cahuita was super cool/unusual. We walked toward the right for almost an hour and found it to be interesting/ unusual.

It rains a lot... it was december, I don't know if it is always like that. Punta Uva beach and Cocles Beach are better places to stay. Puerto Viejo is crowdy, at night people often try to sell drugs. Prices are very high for food. I prefer the pacific coast of Costa Rica.

Nice town, loved the Caribbean influence.
Nice town, loved the Caribbean influence. Road works were taking place at a bridge as you enter the town, so traffic was always very congested at that spot. Hopefully that is just temporary. Loved the national parks, the Jaguar Rescue Center, cacao tour, variety of food. Everyone was super friendly.

Puerto Viejo is a laid back beach town that is walkable and has charming streets lined with many food options and shops. The town has a reliable transportation system and is conveniently located near Punta Uva, one of the area’s most beautiful beaches.

I loved my stay here! Cindy, Mercedes and Almut took the best care of me and the hotel was perfect :) open space, very comfortable and clean room and just a stone’s throw away from the main road, shops, restaurants, bars and a beautiful local beach - I literally couldn’t have asked for better or more! If you’re looking for warm and friendly staff, and a clean and comfortable place to lay your head in a central location, then I would highly recommend a stay here :)
I hope to return one day soon!
We loved the jungle grounds and the pool. We had a family suite with separate bedroom which was spacious and comfortable. Staff were friendly and helpful. There were restaurants and beach food nearby in Cocles. Puerto Viejo was around 30 minutes walk along the beach path. Alternatively reception can order a tuk tuk which costs around 3000-4000 colones. Our stay here was a relaxing end to our time in Costa Rica.
The semi-private beach was amazing. The hotel had the beach lounging dialed in with seating on the beach, and a deck about 30 feet off the beach. They serve coffee near the beach (starting around 5am) in the morning and drinks at night. Breakfast was pretty good with decent portions. The resort had a super nice market attached. The room I had was quirky but cool. It was a great value for money.
Best hostel in Puerto Viejo! Had an amazing stay once again. I keep coming back here. The staff is amazing, always willing to help or just chat with you. It has everything you need and is located in between town and cocles beach. Both are walking distance which is really nice. Recommend anyone to stay here!
Lovely stylish house in a safe & quiet neighbourhood near the beach and a few kilometers from Puerto Viejo away.
Very friendly & helpful people. We enjoyed the great veranda & the wonderful garden.
