With a long and rich history, Lagos is nowadays a famous beach resort of the sunny Portuguese region of Algarve. Including wide sandy beaches and quiet coves enclosed by ochre cliffs, it also offers a lively city centre with one of the best mixes between history and modernity in the region.
King Henry the Navigator chose it as a base for his trips of discovery during the 15th century, and later on, it became the residence of the Algarve governors. The Old Town is circled by medieval walls, typical narrow streets, historic buildings and charming squares. B&B’s and hotels in Lagos’s historic centre allow you to enjoy these picturesque surroundings.
Apart from being an important centre for sailing, the city has amazing beaches, like Meia Praia or Praia da Dona Ana. Resorts and hotels on Lagos’ beaches are the perfect choice for sun lovers, while the hotels near the modern Lagos Marina are popular, as they are both close to the centre and the railway station.
The city is 90 km from Faro Airport, and 24 km from Portimão. Check out the Lagos hotels deals on Booking.com before travelling!

beautifully tiles streets that wrap around and flow into each OTHER. i FOUND IT DIFFICULT TO USE A map. Beaches lined with red rock cliffs were gorgeous. I wasnt there when warm enough to go in water. Not January! Architecture and history was interesting.

Old town Lagos is a gem.
Old town Lagos is a gem. Being on the ocean and the beautiful coast. It is easy to rent a car and use Lagos as a home base. Silves is beautiful and a must see. It is the orange capital of Portugal. Taveria is another gem. The fresh squeezed orange juice in Portugal is the best I’ve ever had.

Lagos is a small, picturesque town with several great beaches coves and cliff walks nearby. There are many shops, facilities, restaurants and cafes in the old town, which all seem to be pleasant and good value, with friendly staff.

My brief stay in Lagos, Portugal, was nothing short of magical. Nestled along the stunning Algarve coast, this city proved to be a treasure trove of experiences, packed into just one night. The warm, welcoming vibe of the locals set the tone for an unforgettable visit. Strolling through the vibrant streets of the historic centre, I was enchanted by the blend of traditional architecture and lively bars and cafes, each telling its own story of the city's rich heritage.
As the sun set, the city transformed, with the golden hues of the coastline giving way to a lively nightlife that pulsed with energy and music. The highlight of my stay was the breathtaking beauty of the beaches, where the cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean meet, offering serene views that etch into memory.
Dining in Lagos was a culinary adventure, with local seafood dishes that tantalised the taste buds, each bite infused with the flavours of the Algarve. Even within the span of a night, Lagos captivated my heart with its picturesque landscapes, vibrant culture, and the unmistakable charm of a city that dances to the rhythm of the sea.
Though my visit was brief, the memories of Lagos are vivid and enduring, a testament to the city's ability to enchant and inspire. It's a place where history, culture, and natural beauty converge, creating a travel experience that's as rich as it is memorable. Lagos, with its undeniable allure, is a destination I look forward to exploring further, with more nights to uncover its many wonders.

lovely city for a quiet holiday.
lovely city for a quiet holiday. Very slow-moving ideal for a holiday. The food was good eating out. Very friendly and patient people. The local beer was cool. lovely views. Quiet clean beaches. Many natures sight seeing. Tourist boat trips everywhere.
The Infante Guesthouse is in located in the old town of Lagos. It is central to the restaurants and a short walk to the marina. The room was exactly as shown on their website. The entire guesthouse was clean, well maintained, and had all I needed. The rooftop deck had plenty of room to cook, enjoy a glass of wine, and socialize with the other guests, all while overlooking the sea. The host spent time showing me around property as well as acclimating me to the local restaurants, the coastal beaches and walk, and the bus.
The staff at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful. The facilities exceeded expectations - amazing outdoor pool, indoor pool, sauna etc. An outstanding continental buffet breakfast was included and was the highlight of our mornings. The hotel is located a short walk from the Lagos Old Town which makes it easy to get to shops and restaurants and experience the town. The restaurant at the hotel serves spectacular Portugese dinners - definitely one of our best meals of the trip. All in all we had a great stay!
This is one of the best places we have stayed. Very welcoming owners of a family run hotel with an excellent location with views of the marina and the river from the terrace. It is a small hotel that has been tastefully decorated to a very high standard. The breakfast is excellent as is the location in easy reach of bus or train. We cannot praise the owners enough for running a hotel meant for people who do not need a TV in their room and appreciate peace and quiet.
Perfect location, away from the noise of the bars but central for all attractions, 2 mins from the bus terminal and a pleasant 5-10 minute walk across the marina to the train station.
The apartment itself was ideal, clean and comfortable.
Easily the best place we stayed in the Algarve for both quality and price.
Peter and Bernadete are lovely too. Great hosts with excellent communication.
This will be my #1 choice of accommodation if I return to Lagos.
The Dom Manuel I was ideally situated for a 10 minute walk into the old town. The hotel itself had a wonderful, olde world charm about it that made it special. The pool area was tranquil and beautiful. Everything was just so easy going. Best of all we’re the staff, in particular Jessica. She was so helpful, both before and during our stay. She helped with airport transfers, spa bookings and taxis. She couldn’t have been more pleasant. 5 stars from us.
Location was great and like max 10 minute walk to old town Lagos and also to the Marina. There is a Mini supermarket around the corner too as well as Mini Golf which is ideal as a fun family activity. The Hotel also has Free Parking across the road which is very convenient. The Hotel has 2 great pools in which one is kids friendly & excellent GYM facilities as well as Game room which again is ideal for Families with kids.
We loved everything! The location was excellent for exploring Lagos. Everything: the marina, the beach, shops, and restaurants was within easy reach. Our room was beautiful. The food offered by the hotel first class. And last, but far from least, all the ladies who looked after the reception area were super, super friendly and helpful. They really made our stay extra special and memorable.
It was spacious and had a small kitchen with fridge, microwave and pans to cook. The people at the desk were all super friendly and helpful. They have a mini golf course and a pool, which was open, unlike the 3 other hotels we stayed at in. We liked the hotel so much that we decided to stay in Lagos an extra night and delay our drive to Lisbon, even though we already had a room in Lisbon.
Loved this hotel, we will definitely go back
it’s small and perfectly refurbished
the rooms were light and spacious large comfy bed, the breakfast was exceptional .
The staff were excellent and very attentive.
we like a bit of a walk so the 25 min walk to Lagos town was perfect and the 5 min walk to the beach was perfect.
the restaurant’s on the beach were excellent.
My partner and I had a very pleasant stay at our hotel/apartment. The receptionist was very kind and mindful of your needs. The room was perfect for 2 and the kitchen had the required tools to cook basic meals. It is located in a calm area close to the city center of Lagos.
I really recommend this hotel/appartements as it has a very good price/quality ratio !
Everyone at reception were very welcoming and had great recommendations for not just our stay in Lagos but also recommendations for other regions in Portugal. The hotel was a 5 min walking distance from a gem of a beach with a bar located on the beach. It was also walking distance from great restaurants in downtown Lagos. I would definitely return!
The staff at Casa Creativa were all extremely inviting and provided excellent assistance with finding activities to do in Lagos. The breakfast was excellent and they were very accommodating to any food allergies. I will highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Lagos in the future and would certainly stay there again.
Location was beautiful right on beach without a lot of traffic. Restaurant looked out on ocean and food was very good - not typical hotel food. Pool bar great and some of the best tasting French fries with choice of dips we’ve had in years. Potatoes were so soft and flavorful. Rooftop terrace was huge and just beautiful.
This a little pearl in Lagos! Entry garden with chill-out area is amazing! Reception bar is making the trick after a long day and the rooftop lounge and terrace grant beautiful sunsets!! Showers and toilet warm, clean and privy. All in all a beautiful experience and did make new friends as well!!!
This unpretentious hotel is right on the main pedestrian street in Lagos (and appears to be the only hotel on this street). It is walking distance to the cliff walk, beaches, and the bus station. A simple breakfast is available for 5 Euro. The gentleman who runs the hotel is always available.
Joao was one of the best host’s we’ve had. He was always there to help, the breakfast was better than a 5 star hotel and he helped to book tours. He had always a smile on his face and made this one of the best stays we’ve had , even better than 5 star hotels
Unfortunately got food poisoning in Lagos (not from the hotel) so ended up spending a lot more time in the hotel room than originally planned. It was a great place to convalesce. Extremely comfy bed. Amazing breakfast.
We loved everything about it. It was far better than any 5 star hotel we stayed in so far in Europe. The rooms were really exceptional with the décor and the amenities. the staff were very helpful and accommodating.
Beautiful property. Excellent location near the beach. Most helpful staff. The breakfast buffet surpassed my expectations and the restaurant at the hotel called Senses was SPECTACULAR
