The location was great. Easy 5 to 7 min walk to Universal Studios, and this comes from someone who is out of shape - it was a bit uphill. There is a shuttle that can take you to and from as well; we caught it on the way back. The view from our room was of the freeway, and the million dollar homes nestled in the Hollywood Hills, which was actually pretty. We left the curtains open the whole time, fell asleep to the city lights scattered across the hills and valley, and woke up to the hills covered in a fine morning mist, which was lovely. Our room was on the 11th floor, and you couldn't hear the freeway below. We were early for check in, and were provided a room right away. We did not have to wait until 4, and we were not charged extra for early check-in. They do require a physical card at check-in to place a $150 hold for incidentals; most hotels do this anymore.

FAQs about hotels in Los Angeles

City of Angels

Exploring Los Angeles, the place where movies are made, you feel like you’re in a dream. Santa Monica Pier is the end point of the fabled Route 66, while just south is bohemian Venice Beach, lined by tall, swaying palms. Go slightly inland from the boardwalk to catch a glimpse of the canals that earned the area its name.

Head north to the golden beach and stunning scenery of Malibu and see why movie stars over the decades have settled here. Also popular with the rich and famous are Bel Air and Beverly Hills, home to exclusive Rodeo Drive.

And the reason for all this glitz and glamour? Hollywood, of course! Sitting high on a hill, the iconic sign is visible for miles around, while below the gold stars on Hollywood Boulevard immortalize celebrities of past and present.  Be there on premiere night to see them grace the red carpet of Grauman’s Chinese Theater.

Over the hill is Universal Studios, with behind-the-scenes tours as well as rides. Next door are the Warner Brothers Studios, and Paramount Studios are closer to Downtown LA.

Whether you decide to live like a star in a luxury LA hotel or choose a cheap motel through Booking.com, it’s worth renting a car to get around this sprawling city and out to Los Angeles Airport (LAX).

Los Angeles is so big that you need time to explore it.

Los Angeles is so big that you need time to explore it. We were there during the riots and so we were on our guard a bit about where we should and shouldn't go though to be honest they were a long way from us and I think you always need to be on your guard in LA. Hollywood seems to have cleaned itself up a little over the last few years but there are still alot of problems with people living on the streets and general safety and cleanliness in the area. There are however some amazing things to do - Universal and Warner Studios are both great days out, The Grammy Museum is worth a visit if you love music, Griffith Observatory and the Hollywood sign are always amazing. (get the bus down the hill if there is an event on at the Greek or at busy times otherwise you'll be waiting hours for an Uber) Venice to Santa Monica is also a must do - there is an amazing bike ride you can do on Sunday evenings along that route which is super fun, loads and loads of restaurants and street trucks to sample and of course lots of sports events in and around you can go see. You need money - its expensive generally in LA. Oh and don't forget to try the new WAYMO driverless cars (or alternatively LYFT / Uber to get around (the metro can be a little scary).

    I loved the Griffith Observatory.

I loved the Griffith Observatory. The Centre of Life show was an unbelievable experience and worth the trip for it alone. LA has a vibe of a mix of all things, from Beverly Hills, to downtown Hollywood, to beaches of Venice and Santa Monica. Easy public transport options and great food options.

    WORST, nothing worth to mention.

WORST, nothing worth to mention. I paid extra for a privileged room, I was given the basic room with torn out and un cleaned towels, disgusting!. It’s neither an apartment nor a hotel room, it’s a room in a privet building without any facilities and customer service. No house keeping done in 4 days. On my complaint on first day, I was promised a privileged room next day, no one turned out till we vacated after 4 nights. I felt cheated and advise other travellers to not to opt this accommodation.

It was great to see the sites but not a place I would go back to. Venice Beach was really run down and full of homeless and drugs. It felt intimidating and then a car ran into me in the main car park and clearly the driver was under the influence of something. Holly wood sign good to see.

    Pros:

Pros: • Griffith Observatory - beautiful views of the city and Hollywood sign • Venice - nice beach scene and canals. Great options for Italian food. • Santa Monica - a part of town that is as cool as people make it seem. • Movie set tours - Warner Bros tour and Universal Studios are amazing. • Lots of museums and attractions in the city: Getty Museum, California Science center, Hollywood Walk of Fame (although this one is just something you cross off your bucket list…it’s not that spectacular). Cons: • Do not take the metro…get a car or uber. • It’s an expensive city. • Everything is quite spread out so it’s hard to get a lot of things into one day. You have to really plan things out.

It is a kind of city everyone should go once in life, although nowadays there are too many people living on streets and it is too dark at night. Take the subway at night and the bus during the day. Griffin Observatory is a must see.

Wow! Just lovely. A cool vibey hotel with lots going on in the evenings. Great location that felt safe. A short walk to the heart of the touristy part of Hollywood. We walked around until nightfall then got an Uber back to the hotel. We parked in the multi-storey car park on the corner of Argyle Ave and Carlos Ave, which worked out cheaper than hotel parking. We booked a Suite, which was perfect for us and the teens. We requested a roll out bed too as the sofa bed was too small to share. Very spacious.

The best place I’ve stayed at in all my trips to Los Angeles. I stayed in room 1207 and it was a big room with cooking facilities and the bathroom was extra big. It has east access to Starbucks and a wonderful pizza shop as well. The pool was awesome and the hotel is extra close to the airport as well. The staff are very friendly and the breakfast food was more than enough considering it is Los Angeles and things ain’t cheap.

Stayed at the hotel for three nights, very well positioned if one wishes to visit Long Beach area, Venice beach or Santa Monica, not good if someone is looking to visit Hollywood or downtown. The restaurant is slightly pricey but offers great views over the harbour and the food is actually very nice.
