One of the coolest festivals (and I mean that in every sense) is Songkran Festival in Thailand. We were lucky enough to find ourselves in Chang Mai during the holiday and took part in the World’s Largest Water Fight for 4 days! Chang Mai is certainly the most exciting place to celebrate Songkran. A significant cultural city of the country filled with tradition, temples, the old city and even a beautiful moat. There is no place I would rather be during the Water Festival.
Cultural travel can be one of the most rewarding ways to travel. Immersing culture of a destination gives you a better understanding of each place you visit.
Myanmar’s fabled Golden Rock. A sacred monument balancing on the side of mount Kyaiktiyo. The giant boulder perched on the side of a mountain, threatens to plunge into the Valley below. A pagoda is built on its top and it is covered in solid gold leaves that people leave as an offering to the Gods.
These devoted people have a Priest drive spikes through their cheeks and tongues or insert hooks into their backs and chests on which they hang various fruit or milk pots to add to the discomfort.
