We Are Back in the Travel Saddle Baby

-On the first day upon arrival in India I awoke to have a cold shower. The room was dense with humidity that the ceiling fan was trying desperately to cut through. As I turned on the tiny drizzle from the shower the ants on the walls scurried to safety.

Our Bathroom

Our Bathroom

We even were given a bar of soap and two towels to our surprise, but we had to use our own toilet paper.  A scoop and a bucket were supplied to rinse we assume.

At least I hope it was because I couldn’t make the shower work. So I filled the bucket with water from the tap and used that scoop to pour the cold deluge over my head and body.  The water ran to a drain beside the toilet and the entire bathroom was soaked…I hadn’t been this happy in months!

What is it about travel that makes us feel so alive?

We aren’t doing much different than we have for the past 2 weeks in Canada.

Dave and I are together every day, just like before.  We are working on writing and photography just like before and we know that we don’t have to go to back work…Just like before.

But landing in Trivandrum and making our way to Kerala has made us instantly happier.

Coffee Time

I wrote this post in my journal at Coffee Temple while sipping on some Java listening to  mellow music, just like I did at Williams Coffee Pub in Woodstock.   Dave is sitting beside me doing his work as usual and I am just so content.

Hearing the waves crash on the shore, sitting in the warm air and feeling the energy of a new place makes writing so exciting.

Even sitting outside last night Blogging on the Internet, just felt right.

When I cam out of the shower shivering from the cold, Dave laughed and said “You are just beaming,” to which I replied “We’re Back!”

That’s the typical way of an Indian bath. Indians are not very fond of shower. Instead they pour water on their head and the feeling is amazing. :)

The same but different. Nice to be in a new local surrounded by the sights and sounds of an unknown adventure. I think I’d have liked at least a luke warm shower, but oh well. Look forward to more of your travel story.

    Hey Guys!
I am just soooo incredibly happy for you both!
You sound “at peace” with your decisions and travels, and that’s the way it should be.
You’re going to have an amazing physical, spiritual and emotional journey that no one can ever take from you.
I am so proud of you both (and I don’t mean to sound condescending! LOL)
Enjoy each other, your surroundings, and your daily adventures as the Planet D!
Please continue to inspire us all with your words and images.
    Miss You!

  6. I’m so happy for you that you’re happy! I am guessing it’s because now you are completely in control of your time and your actions (as much as anyone can be in control that is!), and are no longer dealing with the obligations of your typical working lives. You’re FREE to just enjoy whatever adventures await you, and every day will bring something new, which is really exciting!

I think another reason a lot of us travel is to get outside of the comfort of our normal lives and actually have to focus on basics (like your cold bucket-shower). Just like your bicycle ride across Africa made you appreciate a simple thing like asphalt, dealing with challenges like this one will really make you appreciate that hot shower the next time you get one!

Enjoy every moment – I’m enjoying reading about them in your posts!

Thanks Matt and Trisha. Yes it is like coming home and Trisha, I think that you are absolutely right. Stepping out of your comfort zone makes your feel alive. The more you struggle, the more you appreciate life.
