When taking a tour to he Statue of Liberty, make sure to stop at Ellis Island for a fascinating look at American History. The Grand Hall has a different view today than it did for new arrivals to the United States at the turn of the century.
In a few weeks my parents will be coming home from Florida. We’re bummed that we didn’t get to visit mom and dad so in honour of their coming home, we wanted to share our favourite things to do in Orlando.
After 15 minutes, I got tired of sticking my thumb up at every single car that passed me by. Desperation set upon me. I need to get to the castle in 15 minutes and there’s still 2 miles to go. I’ll never get there on time walking.
It is a dream to think that we have made it to both Alaska and Antarctica in 2 years time. But with a little luck and a lot of hard work, we have managed to make our dreams come true.
When I first got home from my trip to Anchorage, Alaska, I couldn’t write about it. I decided to spend 1.5 months traveling to different cities within the U.S. Two weeks was dedicated to my first Habitat for Humanity trip and my second time away from mainland America.
Located in the magnificent Northern Rocky Mountains and surrounded by dramatic glacier-carved peaks and pristine lakes, rests Whitefish, Montana. Boasting a sense of community left over from its pioneering days, and a location deep within a valley that keeps it safe from extreme climate changes, Whitefish is both uniquely charming and ideal for year-round recreation. Happy Independence Day to the United States. In honour of the big day we thought that we would share a couple of facts about the fourth of July, America’s most patriotic day of the year.
New Zealand has been one of our greatest adventures yet, but it wasn’t easy travel. What perfect timing it turned out to be when the Rango La Puerta in San Diego invited us for a spa and fitness week.
The very first excursion we took on our Alaskan Twitter Cruise was a flight over the North Face of Mount McKinley. Known by it’s native name of Denali in Alaska, Mount McKinley is the highest peak in North America. We flew with Fly Denali in Talkeetna and enjoyed bonding with our fellow twitterers on this Follow Me At Sea Twitter Trip.
Ski season is just around the corner and while cutting some turns down the slopes on our snowboards is one of our favourite pass times, we won’t be in Canada this year to enjoy the season. That doesn’t mean we can’t dream about hitting the big mountains. We were invited to an amazing luncheon with Vail Resorts in Toronto last week where May Lilly unveiled their 1 Billion dollar facelift at their (count them) 5 award winning resorts.
As budget travelers and backpackers we are not used to packing large. Over the years we have learned to pack lightly and to scale down our luggage to essential items only. When Princess Cruises invited us on the #FollowMeAtSea fam trip we were obviously very excited, but also at a loss on how to pack for such an epic trip. An Alaskan cruise is quite different from a Caribbean or Mediterranean Cruise. For the warm weather cruise a person can pack their bathing suit, a few wraps, sarongs and shorts and you are good to go. An Alaskan Cruise however requires a little more planning and a lot more layers.
We have had a jammed packed itinerary here in Alaska. Three days into our trip and we have already been on the river boat, panned for gold, took a scenic flight over Mount McKinley, enjoyed a history tour of Denali National Park and rode the Midnight Express from Fairbanks to Denali. Watching the Alaskan scenery is a thrill in itself, but today’s adventure takes us on an ATV tour with Black Diamond ATV Adventures.
Whether you are going to Alaska on a Princess Cruise or traveling independently you have to splurge and get yourself on a flight to see Mount McKinley. We arrived in Denali to the Denali Princess lodge and started our true Alaskan adventure today. We were in for a bumpy ride as the wind was bursting. Originally we had a tour planned to land on the Mount McKinely’s glacier, but the weather wasn’t cooperating today and our flight was changed to a fly over with the possibility of landing.
The sun didn’t set by the time we turned in at 10:30pm on our first day of our Princess Cruise. We are in the land of the Midnight Sun after all and we are approaching the longest day of the year. Our trip starts in Fairbanks Alaska where we will be spending 5 days on land exploring America’s Northern most state. Guy Glaeser (pronounced Glacier) our tour guide set up a great day for the early arrivals. Staying in the Princess Riverside Lodge offered an excellent home base for all our excursions and today we set out to explore the Chena River.
The Month of June has come at last. Why are we so excited? It is because June is the month that we will be going to Alaska with Princess Cruises as part of their #FollowMeAtSea Press Trip. Watch for us on Twitter starting June 14th where we will be tweeting about every detail of our fantastic Alaskan adventure. If you haven’t joined twitter yet, come on over and follow us at @theplanetd
We first heard about the Follow Me at Sea Media Trip last year on Brilliant Trips Blog. All I could think about was how I would love to be that big of a Travel Blogger that Princess Cruises would invite me to come along with them one day. Skip to 2010. We just got home for a short break from Central Asia before heading off to France, when we received an email from Princess Cruise Lines inviting us on their 2010 Follow Me at Sea Media Trip to Alaska.
Renting a car can be a lot of hassle. We went online to search for the names of all the rental agencies that we could think of. We also had to look to see if they even had a location in our area. We then had to compare and shop around for the best deal. It was very time-consuming. We had to individually call each rental agency to make sure that we were getting the best price, take notes and then call back to make the reservation.
