Twitter Tips for Travel Bloggers, by Traveldudes .There are so many different ways how to use Twitter. There is one and also the most important tip I could give you: Be yourself and have fun!
The holidays are fast approaching and who want to read about our silly travels at the most wonderful time of the year?! We want to talk about Christmas. Even if Christmas isn’t part of your religion or holiday tradition, you can’t help but get caught up in the festivities. Offices have their annual Christmas party, work shuts down for several days, the lights are shining bright and Christmas music is playing every where you go. We have been humming a happy tune since mid November. China has really started to embrace the Christmas spirit and the holiday is shining bright in every part of the country.
With all the lists that are coming out lately we are beginning to wonder what we are supposed to be focusing on in the travel blogging world. It seems that Klout and other social media monitoring sites are becomming the new standard for who is influential in the travel world. These sites are actually dictating who people should follow and paying attention to. It seems that the more active you are on things like Twitter and Facebook, the more people are taking notice of your writing and photography. We had heard that Virgin Airlines went to Klout.com and gave away flights to all the top tweeters on Klout.
The timing couldn’t be more perfect to let you know about a great promotion that the Marriott is having. Nine Bloggers are leaving for Paradise next week to nine different locations in the Caribbean and the Marriott just so happens to have a great promotion taking place at them all. It is one of the most aggressive resort discounts available in the Caribbean and Mexico and if anyone is planning a vacation this winter, now may be the time to do it.
Recently we have had the chance to meet several fellow travel Bloggers. Over the past year, we have been on our own trying to bounce ideas off of one another while working in our travels. While that has worked out well to a point, it hasn’t been until these past couple of months that we have been really inspired and excited about the future of travel and blogging.Everyone that we met these past few weeks have become great friends. We will all help and support each other as we all learn and grow together.

The Month of June has come at last. Why are we so excited? It is because June is the month that we will be going to Alaska with Princess Cruises as part of their #FollowMeAtSea Press Trip. Watch for us on Twitter starting June 14th where we will be tweeting about every detail of our fantastic Alaskan adventure. If you haven’t joined twitter yet, come on over and follow us at @theplanetd
We first heard about the Follow Me at Sea Media Trip last year on Brilliant Trips Blog. All I could think about was how I would love to be that big of a Travel Blogger that Princess Cruises would invite me to come along with them one day. Skip to 2010. We just got home for a short break from Central Asia before heading off to France, when we received an email from Princess Cruise Lines inviting us on their 2010 Follow Me at Sea Media Trip to Alaska.
We haven’t been traveling for very long yet and we have many growing pains to work through. Both with travel, technical aspects and with the blog. Finding a story and keeping it interesting. We have never had to worry about how long we stayed at a place before or how often we need to get to the Internet, but now that we are working to become full time Travel Bloggers and professional travelers, we really have to look at our journey in a different way.
I wanted to thank Andy Hayes for his help this week. After taking a look at our blog, he noticed an error that he showed us how to fix immediately. Within a couple of days, our site was bumped up to a PR4, we owe it all to him. We would never have even noticed the error. His insight and knowledge with code, online writing and marketing is second to none.
I have decided to focus on twitter. I thought that it would be the best way for us to connect with other travelers and bloggers while we are traveling and now we are locked out. We can manage to get in by clicking on forgot password. When they email us a new link to reset our password, we can sign back in. However when we log out, we are locked out again.
The blog is starting to feel like we have actually gotten it to where we want it. We like the layout and we like the plugins that we have added to the site. Changing the Subscribe to us button has helped increase our subscribers and by adding the subscribe to comments plug-in at the end of posts has added a feel of a conversations going on.
Time is really flying by. Dave and I have to make the decision as to whether or not we are going to give notice this month or next. We have to give 60 days notice and Dave’s series ends 3rd week of October, so we think that we should try to be ready to leave at the beginning of November. Besides, if by some miracle we win this leg of the Vantastic Adventure, we would be leaving at the beginning of November, so all around, I think it is a sign to take off in just a little over 2 months.
I have found that every Monday or Tuesday, I have been writing a little review of what steps we have taken to build our travel blog each week. It helps me to organize my thoughts, but I also enjoy sharing my trials and tribulations with people.
Well We did it. We have yet to make it to Australia and when we received a tweet about it, we just had to give it a try. Australia has always been high on our list of destinations, but at this point in our lives, we always choose to go to places that we can travel for a long period of time on a very small budget.
Have a happy Travel Tuesday and keep twittering. If you haven’t joined twitter, join it. It is fun, informative and if everyone is right, it is the wave of the future.
It has been a busy week out there in cyberspace. We have been working solidly on rebuilding our blog for a couple of months now and time flies when you are on the computer for days on end.
First of all we want to thank John at JetSetCitizen for interviewing us for his blog. We learned a lot about ourselves while answering questions. I hope that we can inspire people to take off and explore their dreams. Check out the interview here and let us know what you think.
