Udaipur, which is situated on Lake Pichola in Rajasthan, India is filled with buildings fit for a Maharana. They rise from the water with architecture dating back to the 1500’s. Domed rooftops and arched windows make for a storybook setting. Days can be spent lounging on a bed with big cushions over looking the ghats (steps leading to the water) and daily life. Tourists dine on balconies and roof top patios as they overlook the cityscape of pastel yellows and creams.
We bit the bullet and left Mumbai on a non-airconditioned sleeper bus. The weather is not hot at this time of year so we should be comfortable. The bus arrived and it looked quite smart. We said to ourselves that we would be fine. Boy were we wrong.

Packing for an extended travel can be very tricky indeed. It is one thing to pack for a vacation where you are staying in one resort and not moving for the week or two that you are away. You can pack all you want because you only ever have to deal with your luggage at the airport and transfers where you have trolly’s and valets to help you out. But it is completely another experience to pack for a travel that will keep you on the move for months on end.
