It is hot training at Muay Thai Kickboxing in Thailand. Most gyms are outdoors and Rawai Muay Thai is no exception. The gym is an open air building with a hot tin roof. The carpets on the floor turn your toes into a blistery mess and the smell of yourself and the other students can be a little overwhelmingng.
We were drawn to Rawai Muay Thai in Phuket because they give back to the community. The owner is an ex boxer and true success story. What sets Rawai Muay Thai apart from other gyms is that it is owned and operated by a Thai Boxer that employs Thai Boxers and trainers.
Our Muay Thai Training in Thailand is coming along well and we have been moved up to the advance class. We’ve joined the big boys of Rawai Muay Thai and are ready to kickbox and spar in the ring. Okay that’s exaggerating, we are ready to shadow box and kick pads and padded gloves.
It is our first day of Muay Thai training at Rawai Muay Thai. Thailand is the land of Muay Thai Kickboxing Boxing and no adventure to this country would be complete without doing some training. We arrived a day early to check in and get oriented, but there was a big fight on Phi Phi Island the day earlier so nobody was here. We were on our own until morning.
We had a whopping 33 entries for Travel Photography Roulette, the portraits edition and have to say that there are an amazingly talented bunch of travel photographers out there on the Internet. It was a challenge having to choose a winner when every photo was unique, inspiring, well executed and just as compelling as the other. Photography is subjective. What one person likes isn’t exactly what another would. We decided that the only way to choose was to set up a very strict criteria before we even started. Otherwise we our heads would be spinning for days. Before we put up the original post last week, we came up with 5 things that we would look for when choosing the winning photo.
Traveling the interior of Thailand there are a number of options, ranging from (in increasing order of local interaction) planes, taxis, buses and trains. Trains in Thailand are safer than buses and are a lot cheaper than taxis or flying. They also provide a stylish way to get to your destination with stunning countryside to be enjoyed from the comfort of your seat. On longer journeys it is an ideal way to meet new like-minded friends, as the journey can be a good icebreaker.
I had first witnessed fire spinning during our first trip to Thailand in 2000. I had never seen anything like it before and over the years I have watched it grow. For years I thought that it originated in Thailand, but in actual fact, it is from New Zealand. Known as Poi, it comes from the Maori People. It is a rhythmic dance done with weighted balls that are attached to the end of cord and spun around the body.
While I love movies like that, I often think about movies that I have seen on the road in our travels. Many times in a conversation, someone will mention a movie and it will trigger a memory. Just the other day we were talking about Rambo at work and I said “hey, I saw that in Botswana” It happens all of the time and I will remember where I saw it and then relive that time in a country in my brain. It brings a smile to my face.
One of the coolest festivals (and I mean that in every sense) is Songkran Festival in Thailand. We were lucky enough to find ourselves in Chang Mai during the holiday and took part in the World’s Largest Water Fight for 4 days! Chang Mai is certainly the most exciting place to celebrate Songkran. A significant cultural city of the country filled with tradition, temples, the old city and even a beautiful moat. There is no place I would rather be during the Water Festival.
Wow, two posts about our favorite things to do in Thailand and I feel that we could do a third. The list is endless of amazing things to do in one of the most beautiful, unique and spiritual countries in the world.
I was in the middle of looking through my computer for photos for my blog post regarding food. And came across this cute photo of a cat making itself at home at a restaurant in Thailand. At first we thought it was dead, but after a very long time, it finally turned over for a more comfortable nap.
Sure, we have been to resorts and 5 star hotels, but it is always the suffering that stands out in our minds when we reminisce. When we truly test our relationship and survive the insane and ridiculous, that is when we know that we are meant to be together forever. Here is a list of some of our least romantic situations we have encountered during our travels of the world so far.
We have done so many bone head moves traveling and have had so many close calls in potentially dangerous situations, that I had to add a part two to our list. So here are some more ridiculous situations that could have gone bad, but luckily didn’t and now we can laugh about them. 5; Having [...]

When travelling most people choose to hop a flight to their next destination. This allows them to see more sights in a shorter amount of time and to squeeze more destinations into their itinerary. Sometimes, after too long on the popular tourist route, I prefer to slow down and to take my time. To interact with the local people, to see out of the way places and unspoiled countryside.
