Montreal, a City of Festivals

Montreal, a City of Festivals

Home to the Famous Montreal Jazz Festival and Fetes Des Neiges (Winter Fest), Montreal was ablaze with energy this past weekend as The Just For Laughs Comedy Fest was taking place along side the Montreal Circus Arts Festival aka: Montreal Completement Cirque.

Summertime Things to do in Montreal

Summertime Things to do in Montreal

Before leaving for France one of the best ways to warm up to the French culture is to spend a couple of days in the beautiful city of Montreal, Quebec. Montreal is one of Canada’s most beautiful cities. Located on the St. Lawrence River, it has a certain European vibe. Cafés line the sidewalks of Old Montreal, bicycles are readily available for rent, grand old buildings have stood the test of time and old Cathedrals are the cornerstone of French culture and site seeing. A long weekend in Montreal is the perfect getaway and here are a few things that will help you to occupy your time while visiting our relaxed French speaking city.

Montreal and the Fairmont Queen Elizabeth

Montreal is an excellent start to any trip to Paris. Enjoy 2 or 3 days in the 2nd largest French speaking city in the world before flying to the largest French speaking city in the world. The great thing about Montreal is that it is officially bilingual so you can practice your French without fear of making mistakes before facing the people of Paris. We stayed in style during our weekend in Montreal.

Mont Tremblant, Quebec

Mont Tremblant, Quebec

We love to snowboard. It is the best way to pass the long winters. It actually makes the cold weather quite enjoyable. There is nothing like racing down the hill on a sunny day. One of our favorite mini holiday destinations is Mont Tremblant. There is just enough adventure mixed in with the decadence of luxury hotels, fine wine and great food.

Beautiful Quebec City, A Winter Wonderland

Beautiful Quebec City, A Winter Wonderland

There is no city more beautiful in the middle of Winter than Quebec City. Dave filmed there a few years ago for the Christmas movie Blizzard with Whoopie Goldberg and Christopher Plumber. If it is a magical enough setting for a Hollywood holiday film, it is certainly magical enough for us to spend a few days there in the heart of the cold season.

When I started writing this post, I was going to write about funny cities and towns that I have visited in my travels, but then I realized that they have nothing on Canada. Maybe it is all of our time spent indoors during the winter, but we have come up with some pretty strange names for our cities and towns.
Here is a list of ridiculous, funny and strangely named cities and towns from my home country, Canada. If you know of any from any part of the planet that has some funny names let me know.
