I will admit, I wasn’t a fan of ice wine and while Pam of Spunky Girl Monologues tried to sell me on the idea that I was going to love the Ice Wines of Inniskillin, I had my doubts.
We spent just shy of three months in India and while it wasn’t our favorite place that we have visited on the planet, there were some bright moments during our time on the subcontinent. Here are the 5 things that we enjoyed in India in order of when they occurred. Yoga in Goa, Exploring Hampi, Chilling in Udaipur, Golden Temple of Amritsar, Holi Festival
Meeting up with our friends Becca and Julian brought back the joy of travel again. To see them excited about India and Holy rubbed off on us, and even though I was sick with a touch of Delhi Belly and a bad head cold we enjoyed our time in Mathura celebrating the Holy Festivities.
We have been lucky enough in India to witness many festivals during our two months in the country. Our arrival in Jaipur was no exception. The Kite Festival is an annual event that the whole of Rajasthan get’s pretty excited about and nowhere is it bigger than in the city of Jaipur. It is a festive event. Dancers and musicians play for the crowd, camel carts offer rides along with elephants.
An amazing video that captures the essence of the Shilpgram Festival in Udaipur, India.
There is nothing more exciting than coming into a town to find out that you have arrived in time for a yearly festival. How lucky we felt when we heard that in Shilpgram, a mere two kilometres away from Udaipur, there was an arts festival taking place as we speak. Dancers, performers, artists and trades people from all over India have come to Shipgram for a 10 day festival to show off their talents.
Have you ever had one of those days that you just can’t believe it is happening. That your good luck and fortune has been too good to be true and that your day was so exciting and exhilarating that your head spins when you go to bed? We have seen some amazing things in our life by doing nothing more that having dumb luck.
It was a wild and special day that is right up there with any moment in our travels. When we arrived in Hampi a few days earlier, we were told that we were very lucky to be here as Hampi is celebrating it’s 500 anniversary. 500 years ago, King Krishnadevaraya was crowned king and the beginning of an empire was born. while a photo is worth a thousand words…there is nothing like video capturing the energy and excitement of a festival such as the one that happened in Hampi
We had heard of their famous cremation ceremonies in the past and seen them on T.V. but we never thought that we would actually witness one. The cremation ceremony is a sacred right of passage in Bali. It is a time for celebration and a time for the deceased’s body to be burned and set free from its worldly ties. It is the most important and celebrated stage in a persons life in Bali and no expense is spared.
