Going to Antarctic is a once in a lifetime experience and there is no way that we’re heading there without a full bag of camera equipment and electronics to capture every moment. With each trip we keep adding to our gear list and now we have gotten to the point where our electronics are definitely outweighing our clothes and other gear.
According to Wikipedia there are now upwards of 295,000 apps now available in the Android marketplace; not bad considering there were only 2.300 available this time (March) two years ago (2009).
As the countdown continues to the Mongol Rally, I was thinking the other day about the post that went up on Tuesday. It is going to be an Epic Trip. It talked about our preparations and leg work that we have to do before making our way to the starting line in London. We have a lot of work leading up to the Rally from planning and mapping out the route to finding funds and rounding up gear. We have our hands full for the next few months with the business end of things and scouring the Internet for information and funding. That is the easy part, but what about the problems will have to face during the Mongol Rally.
Each time we go away, we always get a little better at packing, organizing and planning an itinerary, so why not share our progress with you. As we learn, you can learn too! So, let’s start of with electronics. Dave is very excited about his new purchases and I am thrilled with just how organized we are. We have all our electronics them packed away snug and safe in our new bags and we are ready to go. Here is what we are taking this time during our travels to Asia.
When we got home for a little bit between our Asian Adventure and European Travels. We thought that it would be a time to visit friends and family. Relax and enjoy doing nothing. It turned out to be a frantic time of planning, booking flights and hotels, writing articles and catching up on all the networking that we had fallen behind on. Oh, and buying a new Mac. Here is what happened. We opened up the computer one morning and it wouldn’t boot. We tried everything. We needed to get that computer fixed ASAP. Our Solution.
We bought a new computer.
It has only been three weeks into our trip, but we already have a good idea of what we are glad to have brought with us and what we should have left behind in Canada. Here is a list of the stuff that we brought that we are very grateful to have along the way in India, plus a few of the items that we should have left at home.
Bringing and unlocked iPhone to India seemed like a good idea at the time. We thought that if we couldn’t get to an Internet Café, we would at least be able to check our email. It is three weeks into our trip and we have finally managed to make our iPhone and Data Plan work. Here is what we had to go through to make our iPhone work in India.
It’s Monday, you know what that means. Time to tell you the mis-adventures of Dave and Deb preparing for India and how things are going at theplanetd. Let me start by talking to you about our electronics.
“What the %#*! Electronics am I going to bring on this trip??” This is usually the first thing out of my mouth when I start thinking of what we are going to pack for our latest adventure. Deb is usually concerned over all of those non important things like Visa’s, Shots, Banking etc. But it is I who dares to ask this dreaded question that plagues every photographer before they jump on that plane and head to the next destination. Well maybe not everyone but me for sure. Technology changes so much I am always chomping at the bit for the latest greatest on the market. Unfortunately I am limited to a budget so it narrows down the choices. Like anyone I would love to spend 10,000 on the best gear as long as someone else is paying for it. But alas the funds must come from my coffers so money is an issue.
