We interrupt this media week to bring you the 7 Links Challenge brought to you by Problogger. Problogger is the biggest Blogger on the Internet and when he recommends trying something new on your blog, we follow. So we decided to take his 7 Links Challenge. The concept is to make a link to 7 specific posts in your blog. He even gave guide lines as to what posts you had to link to. It was a challenge, but we finally came up with the links for the following posts listed below. Check out our 7 Links Challenge and then start your own!
We have been a couple of busy little Canadian Beaver ‘s this week working on our blog. We have taken the summer to work on refining ThePlanetD and finding companies to partner with. It is a lot of work and we are entering foreign territory. We have been working on code and making a few changes.
Did you know that there are many other ways to connect with and enjoy theplanetd on the Internet besides having to type in our address each day? You can receive emails updates in your inbox or blog feeds daily on your homepage. You don’t have to worry about checking our site to see what is up, we can come to you.
It is a week away from the 2010 Travel Blog Exchange in New York. We are looking forward to meeting some of our favourite bloggers and friends at these exciting event. But more importantly, we are looking forward to learning from some of the leading authorities in the travel blog community. We are currently at sea in Alaska, but we are already thinking about the questions that we are hoping to have answered at the conference. We won’t be able to make it until day two of the Travel Blog Exchange (TBEX) but luckily for us there is a great line up on Sunday the 27th.
We have several blogs that we admire and we often wonder how they manage to stay ahead of the game so well. Dave and I are lucky. We can split the workload. While it may seem to some that Deb does the bulk of the work because she writes the posts, that is only one portion of running a successful travel blog. We thought that we would share with you what the roles are of Dave and Deb at theplanetd.
The big news is that we are starting a monthly newsletter while we are away. Make sure to sign up for it at the top right hand corner of this page! All you have to do is leave your email address and first name and you will receive a monthly update from us. You can unsubscribe at any time. We won’t be doing these “week in review” posts once we start our travels, but we really do enjoy sharing our successes and failures of running the blog. It is in that newsletter that we will share recaps of what we have done with the website and what we have done on our travels. Plus, we will be giving some tips, tricks and insider scoops of our travels. Along with some more in depth articles regarding our experiences.
I wanted to thank Andy Hayes for his help this week. After taking a look at our blog, he noticed an error that he showed us how to fix immediately. Within a couple of days, our site was bumped up to a PR4, we owe it all to him. We would never have even noticed the error. His insight and knowledge with code, online writing and marketing is second to none.
It wasn’t until this past April that we actually looked into the business of Blogging. We stumbled upon it really, we were looking into travel writing and how to submit to magazines and newspapers. As we followed links from one blog to another looking for information, we came across a great travel website called NomadicMatt.com We have learned a great deal in the past 6 months and one of the biggest contributors to our progress has been by following Matthew Kepnes word of wisdom in How to Make Money With Your Travel Blog.
I have decided to focus on twitter. I thought that it would be the best way for us to connect with other travelers and bloggers while we are traveling and now we are locked out. We can manage to get in by clicking on forgot password. When they email us a new link to reset our password, we can sign back in. However when we log out, we are locked out again.
The Planetd is finally at that point where we are no longer spending half of our time working on code or figuring out the layout. It has become a more relaxing place where we only really have to worry about posting each day. While we are not traveling for another 2 months, we have found the past 5 months to be very rewarding learning the ins and outs of running a travel blog and we are feeling confident that things are going to be very exciting once we start to travel.
So many things happen each week that I understand why there are so many blogs out there dedicated to running a website. Now that I have made a point of stating that I will be starting a regular segment at the Planetd, I suddenly worry that I won’t have enough to write about, and yet I have been writing this weekly update for over a month. So let’s give it a shot.
From everything that I have read over the past two months, I should not being changing my website design. Readers get used to a certain layout of your blog and they like consistency.
