One of the most remarkable places to visit in Burma is the legendary Golden Rock. Located in Kyaiktiyo, a few hours east of Yangon, the Golden Rock is a phenomenon dangling off the side of a mountain.
Everest, the mother of all mountains. In our own small way we are following in the footsteps of Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. As we fly on our tiny plane through the Himalaya’s from Kathmandu to Lukla in Nepal, we can’t help but feel a little giddie. Legends have had to take this exact flight enroute to summiting Mount Everest during their expeditions. While we are not going to reach the summit ourselves, we are trekking to Everest Base Camp.
Sri Lanka has its fair share of holy sites. Temples, like this one in the small town of Dodanduwa, dot the landscape. Some offered refuge during the Tsunami and others continue to be a place where monks study and learn the ways of Buddhism.
One of the coolest festivals (and I mean that in every sense) is Songkran Festival in Thailand. We were lucky enough to find ourselves in Chang Mai during the holiday and took part in the World’s Largest Water Fight for 4 days! Chang Mai is certainly the most exciting place to celebrate Songkran. A significant cultural city of the country filled with tradition, temples, the old city and even a beautiful moat. There is no place I would rather be during the Water Festival.
There’s one question that crops up with seemingly every new person I meet along my travels: What’s my favorite country? The simple answer, Nepal. Though there are several countries that have touched me, really it’s the people along the way who have impacted me the most; they have shared with me moments, view points and perspective and altered my perceptions of the world.
