We are new to using our iPhone for photographs. Loving iPhonegraphy. We only just bought the new iPhone 4s before leaving on our trip to Europe and we have been learning and testing as we go.
We’ve been kicking ourselves for not jumping on the Pinterest bandwagon sooner. Last October we were told about Pinterest by a fellow travel blogger to “Sign up now.
Do you have your ticket yet? Travel Bloggers Unite is happening on April 20-22 in beautiful Umbria, Italy and we’re speaking at it along with some of the top people in the travel industry.
Recently we were contacted to be interviewed about our involvement in the Mongol Rally by a writer for the Huffington Post. So imagine our surprise when we saw the article and there was no link to our website.
Its the time of year when we take stock of our lives and re-evaluate where we stand in our journey through this great earth. Maybe it is the cold weather or the shorter days or maybe it is just the January blues that make people decide to start each year with a fresh new set [...]
What are the online trends for travel blogging in 2012? we believe it’s going to be exciting. If our recent trip to the Expedia Head Office in Seattle is an indication, the future is looking bright.
We have a lot of public speaking engagements coming up in the coming months, between the E-Tourism & E-Marketing ConferenceĀ in Cairo on December 18th and TBU in Umbria, this April, we have our work cut out for us to make sure that we share the most important information that we can during our presentations to [...]
It’s Saturday Morning and time to take you to the far away places of the world. We enjoy reading other people’s travel stories and each week we round up a few that touched us in some way, have some valuable information, or that we simply wanted to highlight because it brought back a favourite memory, has inspired us to go somewhere new or is just simply fantastic!
We’ve had a lot of requests to write a post about how to use StumbleUpon. This can be one of the most exciting tools in driving traffic to your site. So here is a step by step guide on what we do each week when using StumbleUpon.
What is with all the hating going on between travel bloggers? Has everyone forgotten why they got into this business? Is it not for the love of travel? This past week a well known travel website decided to spread anger and distrust within the travel community.
The past few months have seen a lot of changes here at ThePlanetD and the first order of business was a major overhaul of our website. Cosmetically, we have only made subtle changes but navigationally, user experience and organization, we have changed dramatically.
What’s Next? We’ve been home from Mongolia for just over a week and that is the question we have constantly been asked. It’s a legitimate question, we are travel bloggers after all and we need to stay on the road to do our job. It’s been a very busy couple of years since we left for India in November 2009.
At first we thought that nobody cared about the Mongol Rally. We were feeling pretty bummed as we watched our readership plummet each day that we drove from England to Mongolia.
Recently we were nominated by Inspiring Travelers to take part in the 7 Links Project started by Trip Base. I actually first saw this exercise at ProBlogger and thought it was a great idea.
As the countdown continues to the Mongol Rally, I was thinking the other day about the post that went up on Tuesday. It is going to be an Epic Trip. It talked about our preparations and leg work that we have to do before making our way to the starting line in London. We have a lot of work leading up to the Rally from planning and mapping out the route to finding funds and rounding up gear. We have our hands full for the next few months with the business end of things and scouring the Internet for information and funding. That is the easy part, but what about the problems will have to face during the Mongol Rally.
Staying connected in countries that censor Internet can be a difficult task for the Travel Blogger. A VPN in China is an important tool for anyone wishing to stay connected via facebook, twitter and many other social media sites.
With all the lists that are coming out lately we are beginning to wonder what we are supposed to be focusing on in the travel blogging world. It seems that Klout and other social media monitoring sites are becomming the new standard for who is influential in the travel world. These sites are actually dictating who people should follow and paying attention to. It seems that the more active you are on things like Twitter and Facebook, the more people are taking notice of your writing and photography. We had heard that Virgin Airlines went to Klout.com and gave away flights to all the top tweeters on Klout.
There are only two weeks until we jet off again and while we are excited to get back on the road, we will miss our friends and families. We didn’t have nearly enough time to spend with everyone as we would have liked and now time has run out. We will try to cram as much visiting time as possible in the next two weeks, but we know we will miss out on many connections.
Throughout the summer we have been writing about our blog changes and goals for our new life as travel bloggers. It has been one of the busiest summers of our lives which is hard to believe because if you were to look at things from the outside, it would like seem we are just playing around on our computers.
So you’ve written something amazing and you want people to read it. It is funny, profound and filled with great information. But nobody is coming over to your blog for a visit. Let’s face it, most of us aren’t writing a blog for ourselves. We would appreciate an audience. But how does one get an audience, especially when they are first starting out?
