Travel Blogging as a Couple

Travel Blogging as a Couple

We have several blogs that we admire and we often wonder how they manage to stay ahead of the game so well. Dave and I are lucky. We can split the workload. While it may seem to some that Deb does the bulk of the work because she writes the posts, that is only one portion of running a successful travel blog. We thought that we would share with you what the roles are of Dave and Deb at theplanetd.

The Art of Travel Blogging and Travel

The Art of Travel Blogging and Travel

We haven’t been traveling for very long yet and we have many growing pains to work through. Both with travel, technical aspects and with the blog. Finding a story and keeping it interesting. We have never had to worry about how long we stayed at a place before or how often we need to get to the Internet, but now that we are working to become full time Travel Bloggers and professional travelers, we really have to look at our journey in a different way.

We have been Blogging for months about this day and it has finally come. We are off to India! Even up until a few days before leaving, it didn’t feel real. But the reality is, we are going to travel and explore this beautiful planet. We will be spending our days in some of the most beautiful destinations on earth. Nomadic Matts: Make Money With Your Travel Blog

It wasn’t until this past April that we actually looked into the business of Blogging. We stumbled upon it really, we were looking into travel writing and how to submit to magazines and newspapers. As we followed links from one blog to another looking for information, we came across a great travel website called NomadicMatt.com We have learned a great deal in the past 6 months and one of the biggest contributors to our progress has been by following Matthew Kepnes word of wisdom in How to Make Money With Your Travel Blog.

The Misadventures of Pre-Travel Planning

It’s Monday, you know what that means. Time to tell you the mis-adventures of Dave and Deb preparing for India and how things are going at theplanetd. Let me start by talking to you about our electronics.

Twitter Problems, Internet Frustrations

I have decided to focus on twitter. I thought that it would be the best way for us to connect with other travelers and bloggers while we are traveling and now we are locked out. We can manage to get in by clicking on forgot password. When they email us a new link to reset our password, we can sign back in. However when we log out, we are locked out again.

Our Top Fears of Traveling and Running a Travel Blog

I know that this is going to sound strange, but we have big fears about actually traveling and running a travel blog. Last year was the first time that we had a blog while traveling and it wasn’t exactly professionally run. We went for days without updating and we hardly ever included photos. We were in some very remote areas of Africa after all and hey, we were just posting for friends and family to keep them informed of how things were going.

What is Happening at ThePlanetD and Building our Blog; an Overview

The Planetd is finally at that point where we are no longer spending half of our time working on code or figuring out the layout. It has become a more relaxing place where we only really have to worry about posting each day. While we are not traveling for another 2 months, we have found the past 5 months to be very rewarding learning the ins and outs of running a travel blog and we are feeling confident that things are going to be very exciting once we start to travel.

Week In Review and The Countdown Begins…Again

Time is really flying by. Dave and I have to make the decision as to whether or not we are going to give notice this month or next. We have to give 60 days notice and Dave’s series ends 3rd week of October, so we think that we should try to be ready to leave at the beginning of November. Besides, if by some miracle we win this leg of the Vantastic Adventure, we would be leaving at the beginning of November, so all around, I think it is a sign to take off in just a little over 2 months.

Our Blog Report, What We did This Week to Make a Better Blog

So, we are leaving for our next travel around the world in less than four months and we are feeling pretty pleased with the direction that our website is going, but we are feeling very overwhelmed with everything else that has to be done.

A Week in Review at ThePlanetd Blog, August 3

A Week in Review at ThePlanetd Blog, August 3

So many things happen each week that I understand why there are so many blogs out there dedicated to running a website. Now that I have made a point of stating that I will be starting a regular segment at the Planetd, I suddenly worry that I won’t have enough to write about, and yet I have been writing this weekly update for over a month. So let’s give it a shot.

What is Happening at the PlanetD Today?

The Week In Review

The Week In Review

We have a guest post happening today at the fantastic site The Professional Hobo for her “Week in the Life” series. Last year we took on the challenge of cycling from Cario to Cape Town. This 12,000 km bike race was not easy to say the least.

A Week in Review 2

It was another exciting couple of weeks for ThePlanetD.

Comments Disabled – My Bad

So, I just wanted to write a little post and let you know that you can now leave comments and say hi. Thank you for your patience, I am going to have this internet stuff figured out soon, I promise. Or, Dave will be done his movie soon and all will be well.

Video and Travel Blogs can be a Very Good Thing

When Dave and I first started traveling, we concentrated more on our videos and photos than anything else. We would make little 22 minute episodes to show our friends and families when we came home. We found a movie of each country explained our experiences more than anything and they could relate to our travels on a more intimate level.
