I was so fascinated by Korean culture and I think that was my first taste of different cultures and the seed for the love of travel. I agree that sporting event inspire us to travel. I remembered as a kid (probably around 7-8), Thailand hosted the Asian Game (similar to Olympic but smaller scale for SE Asian countries). I'm always amazed at how fanatical some people are about their favorite sports. I do understand about the "big" events drawing in travelers, but there are tons of people who travel extensively to follow their favorite teams around and watch them play in person. I wish I had that kind of time and money! But I'm content to order in a large pizza and watch my teams on television. And then there are also a lot of people who travel fairly broadly for things like golf, or skiing, or other adventure sports. I think the Travel industry should do everything it can to help promote sporting events!
