It was a very successful few days promoting ourselves and raising our profile a little bit in the travel world. We had a blast doing interviews and slide shows and yes, we are still working hard on this site and I must say, we are starting to get the hang of Twitter.
But first I must mention that my article about cycling in Ethiopia has been published on Brave New Traveler featuring Dave’s photo’s. Check it out HERE. They were fantastic to publish this one about the difficulty of cycling through this Beautiful Country. And with their help and suggestions it turned out to be a nice piece. Thanks!
Our “PR” campaign started with an interview with KPAM 860 Travel Show wit Pat Boyle in Portland Oregon via telephone. It was fantastic, and we were the lead story on their Saturday morning show with a repeat on Sunday. If you feel like checking out the interview yourselves, click here to listen. We would love to do more of those in the future for sure.
The next was and interview for a school. A student had met us cycling last year and asked if she could interview us for her project. Well done. A video camera was set up and we answered her questions regarding healthy living, motivation to stay active and to give advice to other aspiring adventurers. Once again, had a blast.
And last but not least, we put on a show for the Toronto Bicycle Network. It was a rousing success. They had the biggest turn out for an education night ever and people enjoyed themselves immensely. Even if the room was boiling hot. We asked them to send us a little endorsement note; just to have for our records. We are hoping to do more motivational speaking in the future and letters of recommendation always help. Even though they raved about our show afterwards, they couldn’t do us this one favor. Too bad really. We put the show on for free and with great enthusiasm. It really dampened the experience for us. Oh well, C’est la Vie.
We are still trying to figure out this website business. It has been a lot of work writing regularly, trying to monetize it and keeping up with everyone in the community. We are loving it for sure, but it is a lot of work. The goal is to travel for an unlimited time on our next trip, and the website will play a huge part in making that happen. We have bought NomadicMatts ebook on how to make money with your website and we are studying that daily. With any luck, by the time we leave for Central Asia at the end of the year, we will be well on our way.
We had some good news from our production company as well. Unfortunately National Geographic has passed on our proposal, but two other broadcasters are interested as long as we can get a co-production going with one of the companies that they have used in the past. Our distributor is busy trying to get some Co-productions involved as we speak. I don’t think that I am allowed to name names until the deal is signed, so for now I will have to remain silent on who is interested.
So there is our week in a nut shell. Busy, exciting and fun. Can’t wait to get back on the road.

That is great news! Your website is great. I suggest also checking out http://www.problogger.net/ I have been working slowly on my self hosted website which is still not ready to publish but he has great ideas and advice I am using him to improve my blogging skills he has a 31 days series posts on that but he also talks about monetizing and how to make money out of a blog once you have good content. You already have great content and readers, he also posts videos on youtube.
I enrolled in Commission junction http://www.cj.com/ its an affiliation program. I applied to travel companies to place their ads I don’t know how well it does but it has good travel companies like expedia and priceline on it to monetize your site. these are the things I am learning slowly with and just some bet of suggestions.
Congratulations on the published article. Very interesting and well done.
