Flying Through New Zealand – Literally

We’ve been whizzing through New Zealand at a rapid pace with The Flying Kiwi. We haven’t had a lot of time to spend on the old Travel Blog. We’ve been too busy having adventures in the Adventure Capital of the World!

Dave is Flying Through the air with AJ Hacketts Nevis Bungy

There is nowhere on earth that offers so much adrenaline packed into one place like Queenstown.  The Bungy Jump was invented here by AJ Hackett and we had to jump with the original and still the best. Until a couple of years ago it had bragging rights of having the highest bungy jump in the world!

South Africa owned that title for a little bit before China took over as reigning champion boasting the highest Bungy in the world. But that doesn’t make the Nevis any less terrifying!  At 134 metres it is the highest jump in New Zealand and has the still has the highest swing in the world.

It’s a thrill of a lifetime and Dave fulfilled yet another item on his bucket list. He has been talking about doing a Bungy Jump in New Zealand since college!

  3. Oh. My. God. You could offer me a million pounds and I would still not have the courage to fling myself off a giant structure on what looks like nothing more than a flimsy piece of string!! ;-)

  5. Wow, intense! Something I’ve always wondered about bungee jumping – does it really tweak your back when you hit the bottom and bounce back up? It would certainly be fun to try, but I just can’t help but think that it would give people some serious lumbar issues. :P

    • @Christy No it’s really soft and mellow as it’s a giant elastic band, and they use different ones based on your weight. Stopping suddenly in a car at a red light is worse. In fact stopping gently in a car in general is probably worse.

  6. I’ve always wanted to do Nevis! I did an AJ Hackett jump off the Sky Tower in Macau, then one on the North Island, but Nevis is the goal!

  9. OK. Looking at the photos and thinking to myself, will I be able to do it? No, sorry. This Bungy freaks me out. I would rather do another skydive (LOL).
    Douze points to Dave.
