| / / The Planet D A Year in Review 2010 is drawing near and with all the huge changes we have gone through this year, we thought it would be a perfect time to recap our 2009 activities. Last year at this time we had all but let our blog go. Our cycle through Africa had come to an end and we didn’t have any travel plans in our near future. We are back on the road, currently in India and we are sharing our travel tips and adventures with people around the world. For now, let us revisit some of the highlights that happened in our freshman year of Travel Blogging. Popular Articles of 2009: Many Uses of the Simple Sarong – This was one of our first posts that received some attention on the web. We love bringing sarongs with us wherever we go and here are all the ways that we have put them to use around the world. The Great Canadian Word – We were still new to Blogging when we came up with this idea. To this day, The Great Canadian Word is our number one blog post. People come to our site in search of our phrases and it has even gone a bit viral on the sharing sites, digg, stumbleupon and twitter. Our Favorite Adventures in Thailand -Thailand is one of the most beautiful countries in the world and a favorite to many people as a travel destination. One of our most popular posts has been to share our favorite unique adventures in Thailand. Egypt’s Monuments – Egypt is a fascinating country and it has the top monuments and temples in the world. We managed to see many them and this post has received quite a bit of attention on the net. Rocky Mountain Adventure – Dave had a chance to take some incredible photos in Alberta and people embraced his talent and eye for beauty. This post is where people really started to take notice of the photography of the site. The Planet D Around the Web!! Travel Writers Exchange – How Canada’s Adventure Couple Came to Be Our favorite website for all the information you need to become a travel writer and blogger, asked us to write a guest post regarding our travel niche and steps that we have taken to become bloggers. It was one of our favorites of the year. Matador Network – How Travel Has Changed the American Dream This was my first attempt at sending in an article answering a call to writers for content. Matador Network put out a question about how travel has changed the idea of the American Dream. It has caused quite a discussion and difference of opinions. An article I am most proud of because it was out of my comfort zone. Sharing Experiences – Looking forward to 2010 and the future of ThePlanetD, we enjoyed writing a guest post about Our Favorite Dream Adventures in Canada. We hope to travel across our vast and beautiful nation in the next couple of years and share with the world, the beauty and excitement of our country. Travel Blogs – The Art of Traveling as a Couple, Compromise Oregon Radio – We were amazed when we were contacted by Oregon Radio to be interviewed about our time in Africa. Take a listen to our interview via cell phone while we sat in our car during Dave’s lunch break from a movie that he was working on. In Closing…. It has been such an amazing an enjoyable year switching our life paths and meeting new people. We have enjoyed the camaraderie of other Travel Bloggers and readers and forward to sharing 2010 with all of you. Hi Dave and Deb, So happy to hear that you are in Rajasthan for new year’s. I love Rajasthan, and especially Jaisalmer. My advice is to spend a week there, at least some of it out int he desert (like Pabu ki Dhani or on a camel safari). There is great power, mystery and magic in the That Desert, I can tell you from experience.
As always, really enjoying your blog, our passion, commitment to travel and to communicating your joy to others.
I am leaving for India on Jan. 28. Hope we can meet up.
