Hot Cupping in China

When visiting Yanghsuo China, we read in our Lonely Planet that we should give hot cupping a try. Our guide at Intrepid Travel said it was worth a try as well. We had been carrying our backpacks for quite a while and felt in need of a good massage so hey, we’re the adventure couple, we’ll give anything a shot.

Little did we know that hot cupping is pretty scary!

It all happened so fast we  barely had time to get the camera started. The doctor didnt’ really explain anything, I just stripped down, laid on the table and she instantly started. The cups were tight on my back and I started to feel claustrophobic. I coudn’t get over how many cups were on my back sucking away at my skin.

Then they all came off about 20 minutes later and I was left with ugly bruises for weeks. She told us that the darker the bruise the more in need we were off the therapy. We both must have been in a lot of need because our bruises were nearly black!
