Hi Hector, we actually made a choice not to put in a list of clothes, we mentioned that at the end of the post because clothes are a personal choice. Anyone can tell a person to bring some shorts, trousers and a bathing suit, but people will bring the clothes that they feel comfortable with. But other items might be a little more tricky to think of when you haven't travelled for the long term. As far as clothes, keep it simple (which we stated above)- agood pair of trekking pants, moisture wicking shirt, a couple pairs of shorts, a couple of t-shirts. Underwear and all the usual suspects. Don't over pack and bring as little as possible. You can always buy what you need as you go.

A list of clothes you consider essential would have been nice too.

I have a <a href="http://graphility.com/hurtado/blog/ars-viatica-8-packing-for-long-term-or-mobile/" rel="nofollow">similar post</a> that complements your tips nicely. You're invited to check it out and give your thoughts :)

Excellent list! Most of these things I wouldn't even consider leaving home without, so they "live" in my luggage to prevent me from forgetting them!

Glad we could help Eva. We have probably left something out, but at least this is the basics. Good luck with your travels!

That is an excellent idea Kim. It goes to show how old school we are. We started traveling before Internet was popular and we are stick on old ways. I am going to take your advice and scan the documents . It is a much better idea! Cheers.

The number of times I've had to lend my sewing kit...
I would suggest that you scan and email all the important documents to yourself and your family. That way in an emergency all you need to do is to find the nearest internet cafe and print them out. Saves having masses of paper in your pack.

Thanks, what a great list. I'll probably even print it out for reference a couple weeks before we take off in Feb. Several things I had not thought of yet.

Hey guys! Great list- i completely agree, especially with the sarongs- i use them for EVERYTHING. I now also travel with a homeopathic emergency medicine kit- with remedies for everything from sketchy water supply, bug bites, parasites, tummy bugs, to even dengue and even malaria prevention! Happy to share it with you guys or to set you up with my naturopath, she's fantastic! xo Beck
