Deception Island was an old whalers station and all that is left of it today is a reminder of just how cruel human beings can be. Giant rusting barrels used to boil whale fat and decaying whale bones litter the beach and there is a feel of gloom hanging heavy in the air.
What’s the real star of Antarctica? The penguins are adorable, the seals are spectacular and the whales have that “Wow Factor” that take your breath away when they pop up beside your zodiac. They could all easily be the stars of Antarctica. So What is the real star of Antarctica? Ice.
