We first heard about Locked up Abroad while travelling in Jamaica. Our travel mates were chatting about all the different ways that clueless tourists manage to get themselves thrown in jail. I couldn’t believe that this was actually a TV series and I just had to see it for myself. When we returned home, we caught a few episodes and found them to be very entertaining. It’a amazing to see what people think they can get away with in other countries around the world.
Imagine this… You’ve picked up some cheap international flights and are on your way to the airport. Everything seems fine until you get there and all of a sudden something goes completely wrong. You end up stuck in that little room trying to explain what just happened.
Last night I woke up in the middle of the night with a panic attack. It suddenly dawned on me that we are leaving a week from Wednesday. We had just come back from visiting Dave’s family and I started thinking about how many people we still have to visit and there are only two weekends left! We have a million and a half things to do with the website, banking, packing, cleaning up my parents house and leaving it in tip top shape, putting all our paper work in order…You get the idea.
We wrap up this media week with songs that inspire travel. Like all of our lists this past week this was not easy to narrow down our choices to only six. There are many other songs out there that make us want to travel. Even as I write this introduction I am thinking of others but I won’t bore you with my thoughts, let us know if you have any songs that make you want to visit a country or city.
Here it comes, the post that almost every travel blog has tacked in the past. But it is media week after all and how can one talk about all the different mediums that inspire travel and not talk about our favorite travel books? The books that we have come up with in our list are just the books that we like. The books about travel, a specific country or a journey that have either inspired us to visit them, make a difference or try something new.
There have been some amazing sporting events this past month that we have been following and it inspired me to write about the awesome events around the world that inspire people to travel. It is no wonder that Sporting events are bringing the world together. As we root for our favorite teams, we are learning about other cultures and history’s of their land. We are overwhelmed with incredible scenery and fascinating locations. One of our favorite things about watching world sporting events are to learn about each place in between commercials or during a short break from the action.
Welcome to media week at ThePlanetD. Today, we are going to kick off travel media week with the top celebrities that inspire ethical travel. There are many actors and musicians that take on causes and lend their names to charity every year. But there are a few that stand out and go above and beyond the call of duty. These stars have taken their star power and used it to start their own philanthropic endeavors and build charitable foundations.
We see them wherever we go. We can be in the Middle of the Sudan or on a sidewalk café in France. Half way up to Mount Everest or on a dive boat in the Caribbean. It always amazes us that these 5 products rule the world. When we come home to Canada they are sold in our liquor stores, our supermarkets and even on the shelves our mom and pop corner stores.Who owns these companies? Who runs these companies? And how do they get their products to the middle of a barren desert, an untamed jungle, to the middle of an Indian bazaar or up a rugged mountain?
