We were walking though the district of Montemartre in Paris with our friends from Paris Movie Walks when I snapped this photograph of a wall of paintings for sale.
Forget the old Paris and leave your preconceptions at the door. There is a new Paris bubbling to the surface and it’s fast, chaotic, vibrant and most of all impossible to ignore. People, languages and cultures are all exploding here and I couldn’t wait to capture it all on film.
The renowned, charming, and multi-faceted “City of Lights” has a lot to show off. Making its worldly presence felt in photographs, cuisine, literature, and films, most notably Woody Allen’s latest, Paris radiates enchantment and seduces dreamers of all kinds.
When it comes to a romantic city break, Paris and Rome are always top contenders for places to go to sweep your partner off their feet in a romantic, exciting and culture filled few days. With both cities offering many similar advantages, when it comes to making the decision you have to ask yourself – are you a Roman or a Parisian?
There aren’t a lot of countries that we go back to again and again. Actually we realized that we have only re-visited 3 countries again and again. Mexico, Thailand and France keep calling us back.
Our first stop in Southern France was Marseilles. The French Riviera conjures up images of million dollar yachts, outrageously beautiful people, celebrities and fine living. We were seeing it our little Nissan Micra.
I Love Paris in the springtime. Aside from travel our other favourite pass time is to watch movies. What better way to combine our two passions of travel and movies together than with a fantastic giveaway!
The world’s best beach cities offer holidaymakers the perfect combination of urban buzz and seaside relaxation. After a day on an amazing beach, travellers can simply walk across the seafront and be back in the heart of a bustling ci
What is it about mountains? Why are we so obsessed with those great, foreboding hunks of rock? They’re challenging, dangerous and so far removed from the warm sanctuary of our living rooms they may as well be on another planet. Perhaps it’s the surge of triumph that arrives as you stumble those final few steps to a misty summit; perhaps it’s the exhilarating joy that comes with hurtling down a powdery white slope on skis; perhaps it’s those eye-watering views observed from epic heights.
2010 is drawing to a close and it is the perfect time to reflect on the events of the past year. We have had quite an amazing year when we stopped to think about. It is funny, when it is your own life, you don’t really realize just how incredible things are while they are happening, but in retrospect, life can be quite extraordinary. I won’t lie, things haven’t been all roses. We worry about where the money will come from, what the future will hold and if we will ever feel comfortable enough to actually stop counting every penny that we spend.
How can you love McDonalds in France? It is a country renowned for its rich cuisine and fine wine. Stepping foot in a McDonalds is like thumbing your nose at the French heritage. There is nothing that we love more than sitting in an outdoor cafe, drinking wine and sampling rich cheeses and cured meats. Like the French, we have a love affair with their food. We couldn’t wait to peruse the menu of a restaurant and choose something mouth wateringly delicious. The prix fix menus were our saviour as we could sample a few dishes at a time. Oh yes, we loved eating in France. So Why McDonalds
Summer is in full swing and it is holiday time for families. It takes a lot of planning to see Paris and not break that bank but if you plan properly, you can fit a lot in during your time in Paris and have the trip of a lifetime. But if you are like many people and only have a limited time in the city, you need to arm yourself with a few more tips regarding its attractions and museums. Closures. We had a few hiccups in our travels to Paris because we were too lazy to do the research. Paris has some great deals, great savings and a lot of free things to do, but you can also miss out on your perfect day in Versailles or at the Louvre if you happen to go when they are closed.
One of the things we love the most about travel is meeting new people. While we could compile a list of a hundred people that we have met that have become great friends and have been an inspiration, we wanted to share with you a few of the special people that have really stood out and touched our hearts during our travels around the world over the years. 1. Mary Louise in Paris, France, 2. Hussein in Udaipur, India, 3. Ajith in Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka, 4. Abdulla Ahmed in Wadi Halfa, Sudan, 5. Kul and Mim Das Tamang in Kathmandu, Nepal
We should have known better. We had been in France for a month and we had known that many museums were closed on Mondays in Paris. If we had decided to check out the Palace of Versailles at the beginning of our trip, we most likely would have checked to make sure it was open. But on the day that we drove out to Versailles we were nearing the end of our European adventures. We had been to three other countries and had put nearly 7000 km on our car. When we pulled into the parking lot we couldn’t believe our luck. What a great spot we had and we were so close to the Palace. People must have decided to go somewhere else toady since the weather wasn’t looking promising. HaHa. To our dismay, the ticket office was closed.
It was a chance tweet on twitter that brought us together. We have been following @ParisBuff for quite awhile and have had the odd quick exchange on this massive social networking site. When they saw that we were coming to Paris from one of our tweets, they invited us to their house for coffee and a tour of their amazing neighbourhood Montmartre. Who better to take us through the most charming area of Paris and the home to La Basilique Sacre Couer than the author of Paris Movie Walks himself !
Located in the north east corner of Paris, Cimetiere Pere la Chaise is the most visited graveyard in the world. Over 800,000 souls are buried here and besides Jim Morrison, some of the other famous residents include Chopin, Moliere, Edith Piaf, Rossini and Oscar Wilde. One can always tell when you happen upon a famous grave by the crowd of people. Walking with our heads buried in our map we would look up to see a crowd and rush to take a look at what famous person is buried there.
