This past year was an interesting one. We got to re-visit some places we had already been but more importantly we got to take in some of our dream destinations for the first time. We thought the best way to show you why we loved all the places we visited was through our favourite photos from each country. Astana, Kazakhstan: The City at Night
You aren’t alone if you didn’t know much about Kazakhstan. Before going there, we had never heard of it’s capital city Astana, we didn’t know anything about architecture or its people and we didn’t really know what countries bordered it.

We love camping. Have we ever told you that? Sherry and Rick had told us that they didn’t do much camping before the Mongol Rally and didn’t know what to expect, but I think we have made converts out of them.

There must be enough of a market of people driving through the town of Aktobe in Kazakhstan to warrant a write up in the Lonely Planet. We know that people drive this direction each year during the Mongol Rally and we were no exception.
A Kazakhstan Farmer at Sunset
We had set up camp in the middle of a field somewhere as the sun was setting during the Kazakhstan leg of the Mongol Rally. In the distance we saw a horse and rider running in the fields.
How to Fill Up a Car on the Mongol Rally
It seems pretty straight forward. You pull into a gas station, either ask them to fill her up, or grab the hose yourself and start pumping. On the Mongol Rally, things are not so simple.
