Seeing the Galapagos tortoise is one of the highlights of visiting the islands off the coast of Ecuador. The Galapagos Islands were even named after their massive shells. Sailors talked of these islands filled with giant turtles whose shells resembled a saddle – “galapago” in Spanish.
We have a schedule and we stick to it and that is a fact. Every day of the year we post an article or photograph about our travels. We give advice on travel or travel blogging or social media, or we spill our hearts for everyone to read about our hopes and fears and dreams. Today is not one of those days.
We are completely excited about our travels over the next three months and when I look at our calendar of events, I am thanking the Lord that we had the foresight to start the hiring process early.
The last time we swam with sharks we were in Belize while diving our way through Central America in 2003. We aren’t diving again yet, but we did snorkel in some of the most exotic waters on earth here in the Galapagos.

The thing we loved the most about our Active Galapagos adventure was the fact that we stayed on land each night. I bet you didn’t know this, but 28,000 people live on the Galapagos Islands of Ecuador and contrary to popular belief, you don’t have to stay on a boat.
The Galapagos Blue Footed Booby is the star attraction of the Ecuadorian islands. Unique to the area, these birds strut their stuff showing off their beautiful blue feet to attract their mate. This one was stomping from side to side as we drove by on our boat tour of the harbour of Isabella Island.

The Galapagos Iguanas are some of the most fascinating creatures we have ever encountered. The marine iguana is the only iguana in the world that feeds underwater. Check out this awesome video
