Wildlife Wednesday; Chobe National Park Botswana

Wildlife Wednesday; Chobe National Park Botswana

If there is one place in the world where you are guaranteed to see elephants it would be Chobe National Park. Home to the largest concentration of elephants in Africa. I have read different sources claiming anywhere from 50,000 to 120,000 elephants inhabit Chobe National Park. Whatever the actual population may be, you will see them everywhere.

Giving Back, Support Local Art and Help Communities Thrive

Giving Back, Support Local Art and Help Communities Thrive

Ngwenya Glass is a great example of how one can help people in poor countries learn a new skill and contribute to poverty alleviation whilst embedding in them a greater awareness of the environment. I’ve visited many eco community projects around the world but the Ngwenya Glass story is one that I found particularly inspiring, probably because I’m a big fan of projects that stimulate and promote local arts and crafts. I have yet to make the trip to the factory in Swaziland though it remains at the top of my list of things to do on my next trip to South Africa. I can’t wait!

Favorite Food From Traveling the World, So Far

Favorite Food From Traveling the World, So Far

One of the best things about traveling is food. Dave and I seem to plan our days around our meals. We wake up in the morning and while we are eating our breakfast, we discuss what we are going to have and where we are going to go for dinner. We love food. Food makes us happy. And when we discover new and delicious food, well, we are in heaven.

Wine, Cheese and Seafood and Sights in Cape Town, South Africa

When we arrived in Cape Town last Saturday, it was cold and rainy. It stayed that way for 4 days, but suddenly, the mist dispersed and Table Mountain was revealed. I had read and heard that Cape Town is the most beautiful city in the world and now I see why. It really is stunning.

Last Day in Namibia. South Africa Awaits our Final Stretch

Last Day in Namibia. South Africa Awaits our Final Stretch

Yesterday we travelled 178km from Fish River Canyon. The world’s 2nd Largest Canyon after the Grand Canyon. 130 of those kilometres were off road on sand, corrugation, gravel and some tough climbs. When we finally hit the tarmac, we turned directly into a brutal headwind. Yipes, we were on the road for 9 hours yesterday. It didn’t help that it was a non race day, so we decided to take it easy and catch up on some photography. But part way through the morning, we decided that we had better get moving.

Let’s Bike 207 km on the Elephant Highway in Botswana

Let’s Bike 207 km on the Elephant Highway in Botswana

Yes, it was a very big week. 5 century’s (100 mile days) in a row with a 207 km day smack dab in the middle of it all. It was surprisingly not too bad. The winds were co-operating and the road was flat, so we just put on our I Pods and peddled the days [...]

Victoria Falls, Adventure, Adrenaline, Nature. What a Rush.

Victoria Falls, Adventure, Adrenaline, Nature. What a Rush.

Victoria Falls-What a Rush How do you spell adrenaline? V-I-C- F-A-L-L-S. We had the most amazing rest days here in Livingstone Zambia, home of the mighty Victoria Falls. Dave has always threatened that he would bungee jump in Victoria Falls if we ever made it there. Unfortunately, I thought that I would never have to [...]

Three Months into the Tour d’Afrique; the Pressure’s on.

If all goes well, on May 10th we will be riding  into Cape Town.  These last three months have been some of the most difficult and challenging times of our life. Dave and I do tend to put a lot of pressure on our selves though.  He is still one of the few hanging on [...]
