Our guide in Phnom Penh said that because the government is trying to promote flying and their "alliance" with Bangkok Airways, they've stopped repairing the road to Bangkok. Seemed ridiculous, but we heard the story elsewhere, so seems true.

While at the Toul Sleung, we happened to meet one of the 3 survivors of that horrible place still living. He's the key witness in the Khmer Rouge trials as he's the only survivor still living in Phnom Penh. His stories were wonderful and reflected the spirit I found with all the Cambodians -- worn down from years of war and continued corrupt governments, but strong souls who want their story heard.

My guide for the tour had the same reaction - he wanted the tourists to know what had happened for the same reason. Again, you hit it perfectly...it can only be described as "overwhelming sad."
